Thinking of building my own pedalboard. Who on here has done the same? – Any hints/tips? I think I know what I want but I’m gonna draw up some plans and take it from there.

Show me your DIY pedalboard pics :)

This is the kind of thing I'm looking to make - http://guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.c...amp;thread=3067 - maybe slightly smaller than this though.

I will be shortly also. Currently going through a bit of a pedal phase. As I've got a couple of spare old bass cases knocking around, considering this:

Looks good. I've not considered making a case actually - hmm, that's got me thinking...

I quite like that too.

Now for £20 - £30 you can get a Stagg pedalboard, but I reacon they might be built to only take small peoples weight & just be used in the bedroom (could be wrong tho).
Hardware store (B&Q, Homebase, etc) will have toolboxes of the sturdy flightcase variety for anout £20 - £30. Turn it upside down & that's the same as the Stagg but with better build quality.

I do like the idea of that first board tho & might build something based on the idea but with a lid.

I had a go at knocking something together – mixed results. I think I learnt quite a lot from the process but I’m not sure about how it’s turned out. It’s quite a simple design but my cackhandedness made it a bit complicated. I just used scrap wood that was knocking around so it’s not like I’ve actually forked out for anything. If it turns out alright after I try and resurrect it then I’ll post a build diary showing what I did, but I can’t promise anything…

I'd be interested to see a build diary even if it doesn't turn out how you want. A hardwired pedalboard is something I fully intend to build at some point in the future to replace my Diago with. But I am absolutely hamfisted when it comes to woodworking/electronics, so I'll need all the help I can get! ;)
I have to say, guys - not to knock any of your DIY in any way, but with the range of pedalboards available on the market today at all price points there really should be something pre-fab to suit you budget.
I know what you’re saying man, but it’s not all about the practicality; sad as it may be, I enjoy the process and the achievement of building something with my own hands. As well as that, I’ve only spent £2.50 on parts – what pedalboard can you buy for £2.50?

I’m not really making anything technical. It’s just a carpeted angled board with slots like a Pedaltrain – just a bit of fun.

I bought one of the Warwick Rockcase pedalboards, and scored a chunk of foam from the sofa shop to hold the pedals in. They are a bit soft metal, but look tough, so it got battered very fast in a shared rehearsal space with other people moving your kit about. Got an old case that I was considering converting, but I just don't use enough pedals to be worth it.

I found these off-cuts in my garage so my only cost was the velcro.

You can see on the velcro strip second from the bottom that it covers two pieces of wood and these have a gap between them which is perfect for wiring. I just used a stanley knife to make a small slit to feed the wire through which helps keep things nice and tidy.

Heres a close-up:

Ok – My pedalboard is finished. I’m fairly happy with the results but I think I could have done better. I’ll take some pics of the finished thing in the morning and then I’ll create a build diary showing what I did.
