Muted "G" - Thomastik Spirocore

Hi,

Cant find any useful info regarding on The Web.

Got brand new Thomastik Spirocore 3/4 Light for my 3/4 Thomann Plywood DB and found that "G" sounds like "foam muted" - like G on a P-Bass with foam placed underneath.

It does happen with an open string and any position on a fingerboard.

D and A they ring as hell, E - not as good nor bad I`d say.

G is NOT twisted - checked very carefully. Action - around 5mm at the end of the fingerboard

This problem did not exist with Pirastro Obligato Set....

I will play with sound post position but before that would like to know what actually the problem is?

Thanks in Advance!

Cheers,

Tomas

They all BRAN NEW and bridge is cut/set to standards I`d say..

Could still be a duff string. Google dead strings and you find threads on here where people have had problems with new strings, I have only had it once thankfully but sounded just like you describe. It could be all sorts of things including the pick up, bridge etc etc but best to rule out the easy to fix/ cheap options first.

I had much the same with the G on a set of new Spirocores a couple of years ago, also bought from Thomann.  They sent a replacement which was fine, and I had to return just the G.

Great news then... I hope... :) THANKS!

is the ball end seated correctly in the tail piece?

I believe so. One stage I got the string loose and back to tension to make sure is not TWISTED. Will check the end now...

.... all looks perfect... still I got muted G string :(

Did they wait for faulty string before shipping new one? This will take weeks to fix... :( :(

Hi,

Well... good news. Got replacement string today and..... FINALLY it is all right now! More harmonics - more SOUND!

Exceptional service from Thomann!

Still do not get it how is it possible to spend £140 for BRAND NEW strings and get one "FAULTY"???😢

Cheers!

Tomas
