paul, the
Updated Looks like UPS is a rising star. Would love to see more exploration with UK SameDay. :- They could become the choice value(?) service. Thanks for the input everyone. funkysimon
+1 for Interparcel, shipped a 1x12" combo amplifier (despite a slightly worrying entry in their Prohibited Items list: Magnetic and Ferromagnetic material). Picked up and delivered when they said. The shipment actually travelled with DHL, so perhaps some credit should go to them? £9 for a 20kg item, £5 insurance up to £250. R,5,R,5...
+1 UPS (US --> UK). Had a (heavy) rack preamp sent over. No problems except for a one-day delay in delivering. Ended up not having to pay custom fees, but that was just sheer luck.

Alpha-Dave
a +1 for UPC: a 29kg amp head (inc rack case) insured for £500 sent from Yorkshire to Somerset in 48 hours for £37. The only downside was waiting for the pick-up between 2 & 5pm, but as an alternative I could have dropped it at their depot.

spinynorman
I've had nothing but good experience with InterParcel. Always pickup on time and no problems with deliveries, and I've used them a lot. if you register, you get 5% discount as a returning customer. Jono Bolton
On the Interparcel website you have the option of using either interparcel or city link, are they part of the same company? and from what I've gathered, interparcel = good, city link = bad. Is interparcel a safe bet? I can get added insurance too i think.

Citylink is for account holders with, I think, a weekly minimum assignment requirement. I don't think anyone is a safe bet but Interparcel seem very good, how you package will aid your chances. Under the link on the first page there are some links with differing evaluations ('BC thread 1' etc). If I were to send gear myself I'd use either UPS, Interparcel or APC (if they'll insure). An interesting claims policy, though:
Interesting reading on the Interparcel Terms & Conditions page: In the rare event of damage all packaging must be kept for inspection by the carrier. The item must be available for inspection in the state it was delivered, at the address it was delivered to. If the item is moved / repaired or if the packaging is not kept any claim will be voided. Photographs of the internal and external packaging as well as the damaged item must be supplied to start a claim. In the event of damage repair costs must be supplied. If the item cannot be repaired then we would need this in writing from a specialist for the full claim amount to be considered. And this I found surprising: Loss or damage under the following conditions will not be covered: * Acts of God * Consequences of war * Insufficient packaging / Incorrect labelling * Prohibited / Restricted Items - listed in our Help and information section
Welshbassist
I received a cab though UPS. It arrived next day, quicker than I imagined, but they delivered it to a hotel instead of my house, completely off. It wasn't even in the same street or anything. Jono Bolton
I'm confused about APC's charges. I can't find anywhere where I can find a quote. Would I be better to phone the nearest depot to find out how much it'll cost? It's Peavey combo that weighs roughly 40kg.

Make sure you have the details ready:- ie weight and volumetric weight. Link to work it out: http://www.apc-overnight.com/information.php Let us now how it goes/how it went. Then they resell that to you at less than you would have to pay going to UPS or Parcelforce as an individual. They used to rebrand all the services and you'd just have to accept whoever turned up, but now you can pick DHL, CityLink, UPS etc, depending on how much you're prepared to pay. I've used all three of those through InterParcel and never had a problem, but I've probably been lucky. Possibly with the volume Interparcel have they get better service, but I don't know that.
