Sorry for the late response. I'm sure you've got this sorted by now but with APC you just give them a ring.

Make sure you have the details ready:- ie weight and volumetric weight. Link to work it out:

Let us now how it goes/how it went.
Not sent it yet, been waiting on a cheque arriving (came today) and then clearing, probably send it at the start of next week, will let you know how it goes.
Interparcel is just an agent for various courier companies, so they'll give CityLink the volume commitment they want for an account and bulk discounts. Then they resell that to you at less than you would have to pay going to UPS or Parcelforce as an individual. They used to rebrand all the services and you'd just have to accept whoever turned up, but now you can pick DHL, CityLink, UPS etc, depending on how much you're prepared to pay. I've used all three of those through InterParcel and never had a problem, but I've probably been lucky. Possibly with the volume Interparcel have they get better service, but I don't know that.
Interparcel are the cheapest option I think, but they don't have anywhere near Ayr to pick the amp up :)

I think i should ask to put USPS on there.

+1

I have recieved over 15 guitar/bass shaped parcels from them over the past few years and never been a problem. (If anyones been the problem its when they get to the UK and Parcel force get a hold of them they slow down :S

I'll add USPS. I'm going to link to individual posts in the relevant information bit as well.

I've finally worked out how to link to posts  :)

jono b, you probably need a postcode at hand if you're going to give APC a ring. Forgot that. You should inquire about insurance if you're interested in it - it seems different APC stations have different availability regarding insurance.

Considered UK SameDay? They're associated with APC, it seems, but with different options.
I'm confused about APC's charges. I can't find anywhere where I can find a quote. Would I be better to phone the nearest depot to find out how much it'll cost? It's Peavey combo that weighs roughly 40kg.
dlloyd has sent a 40kg combo from Dundee to Hampshire for £30 if that's any help.

I saw that yeah, gives me hope! If I get a chance I'm going to start packing the amp today. Oh, and I've got all my postcodes and contact numbers. Might have a look at SameDay, but probably go APC
Got the volumetric weight of the Peavey, a hefty 41.37, but that sounds about right. No idea of the actual weight though, the amp is 37kg, but there's a lot of packaging. Do I phone APC with the weight and they tell me the cost?
Just have the weight, volumetric weight and address of the receiver at the ready and they should give you a price over the phone and tell you when the item is expected to be picked up.
Just called APC. £31.02 inc VAT and insurance, and they're picking it up from my house tomorrow. Just got to find out now if the amp arrives in the same condition it leaves in. It's well packed, several trees died to protect this amp :)
APC just called me and said that the volumetric weight is about equal to the actual weight, and this'll now cost me another £11 because it's over 30kg and needs to go freight. Surely the volumetric weight is to give an idea of the weight and so when I tell them that the volumetric weight is 41kg that should surely be an indication that it's a heavy f***er? Why charge me £30 and then call me to tell me the weight I gave them was right and that I have to pay more. Not very happy at all. This has to come out of my pocket too because the buyer said they didn't want to pay more than the £30 i charged which is why I went APC.

I'm sorry to hear that jono :) . It ought to be their problem if they don't get the right information from you over the phone. A quote should be a quote.

I think I would have have had a rant. It's not god enough.

So they had the package and asked for more money? Did you have any options?

If this were ebay APC would get neutral feedback from me. They gave me a price that I paid, collected it next morning, and it was eventually delivered about 2 days later, but no one was in so the buyer had to collect from the depot. So far, so good.
However, about 4 hours after they picked it up they called to say they mis-quoted me and it's be another £11 or so, because the volumetric weight was too close to the actual weight (about 40kg) and as it was over 30kg it was deemed a two man job even though I'm weak as a kitten but I could carry it about. If the volumetric weight is 41kg, surely that indicates that the package's going to weigh over 30kg?
Anyway, buyer has the amp and no-ones been to collect more money so I think I'm in the clear. Still they were balls, but I think that was mainly Speedfreight, as sh*te-y Kilmarnock company that's part of the APC family or something. APC +0

Just took delivery of my Ashdown head from Jay249. Delivered using Parcelfarce. Seems to be okay 'cos it was well packed but the delivery guy was standard Parcelforce delivery guy. Also I can't try it out cos I dont have a cab yet.
If anyone's not seen it, this is Lee Evans talking about Parcelforce, and it's spot on. Apologies if you don't like him

Parcelforce

Warning: Lots of swearing and rudeness!
I've just popped a combo for sale on ebay.

Can anyone please recommend places to get boxes?
How heavy-duty? If you're just basically wrapping it in cardboard, raid the local supermarket. For heavier-duty, there's quite a few places. I use Fitted Box largely because the future Mrs Zero works there.

Cheers, tau. I asked if the supermarkets had them, but they never seem to. I reckon there's a place with millions of used boxes somewhere. I don't understand why they're such an enigma. I'll ring round the s'markets on Monday.

If I have this right, Parcelforce will only insure up to £150, but Standard parcels will insure up to £500 but is not next day, and Next day special delivery won't take a bass or guitar 'cos of the size ?

Wah........
