I was just watching Guitar heroes on BBC4 and Thin Lizzy were on doing Whisky in the Jar.I couldn't make out a definite bassline.I listened again and all I could hear was guitar, drums,Hammond organ and vocals.Am I mistaken,or has anyone else noticed this.I mean Phil was there, playing a Plexiglass Dan wotsisname, but I couldn't hear any bass.Am I going mad????

Whiskey is an old Irish folk song. As far as I can recall, on the original recording, Phil played acoustic guitar so there was no bassline per se.

Yep - no bassline. I've seen an old film of them playing on a european tv show and Phil was playing acoustic throughout.

My grandson,Delbert.I used to sing this song years ago in a covers band and just presumed there was a bassline because Phil was playing bass on TOTP.I just never really noticed it's absence before.I still love the arrangement tho'.

Thin Lizzy was a 3-piece when they started out so Phil played rhythm guitar and Eric Bell played lead on Whiskey in the Jar. Everything else they played was guitar, bass and drums as far as I know.
