Emergency Bag

Recommended Posts

Remember being asked to have an emergency bag ready in case of asteroid strike, zombie attack or Brexit etc?

Back in the day I used to have a 'gig box' with all my pedals PSU and various spares, so I'm making up another one. Do you have one and what do you have in it.

This is my thinking for now (pedals, bass(es) and amp(s) not included):

  • Spare 9V batteries.
  • Spare strings, (even just a  used set - better than nothing!)
  • Earplugs, two sets.
  • Spare patch leads.
  • Two spare instrument leads.
  • Spare power lead.
  • Spare speaker lead.
  • Fuses, all possible values needed.
  • Screwdrivers (phillips and flat)
  • Hex keys

My main fear is blowing an fuse internal fuse! Second worry is that I end up being a spares depot for the rest of the band...

Much the same as you, but also

  • DI box,
  • Music stand
  • Head torch
  • Battery tester
  • Spare batteries for tuners: AAA and CR2032
  • Basic multimeter
  • Various connector convertors to connect to other peoples' gear
    • Jack to speakon,
    • XLR to jack,
    • 3.5mm stereo jack to mono 1/4 jack
    • Jack to phono

I also carry spares for the band

  • small mixer to put everything through my amp if the powered mixer fails.
  • PA length speakon lead

Ooh have to think about this . .

  1. Spare jack leads
  2. Spare Speak-on to Speak-on
  3. Spare Jack to Jack Speaker cable
  4. Spare Speak-on to Jack
  5. spare 9v psu
  6. a few spare 9v cables
  7. assortment of spare patch cables
  8. spare kettle lead
  9. few sets of strings
  10. a few 9v batteries
  11. spare 9v daisy chain in case usual power block goes funny

think that's it . .

Fair call, my approach is new batteries that never get used in the critical pedals - compressor and a distortion.

I try an avoid batteries, most pedals of mine are bottom screwed and velcro'ed down, a spear for the bass is always handy mind.

I have a spares bag.  Leatherman multitool, power/speaker/instrument lead, torch (though one of the kids might have nicked it), strings, and paracetamol.

N ver used any of it, and thought at the last gig I might even leave my spare bass at home next time.  Live dangerously!

I had no idea how useful the ART DTi was until I owned one. I use it all the time now. It converts one connection to another (xlr, phono and jack) and any combination. It has two discrete channels, which is handy for stereo use or for using on two signal paths (or more since it can be used as a splitter), and its 1:1 gain.

My brother suggests adding anusol to that list. Piles can be very distracting...

That's a clever bit of kit. Thanks.

I carry pretty much all of the above. I got an advent calendar a few years that instead of chocolate contained a Wera multitool kit. You got a screwdriver head each day. Comes in a small handy little bag that all the attachments click into.
Just like this one - but doubt it was anywhere near as expensive. Really handy for adjustOMG action and pickup height on the fly (should really replace some old screws on the basses...)

What bags are you all using for this utilitarian utopia?

I've got a roll along tool kit bag. It's bigger than I'd like but it fits everything I could ever need, including my Helix Floor Control board, two lights, an extension cable reel, etc. It means that I don't need a separate emergency kit and my load in is simply basses, rack and bag. Sometimes a mic stand...

I used to pack what I needed for a gig before each gig but I'm not very good at that and frequently used to forget things. Now my gig items are never used at home, so I know the bag is always ready to go. For the sake of a few extra cables and things it's made my gigging life a lot easier.

I take a lot of stuff in that bag, but not what I'd call 'emergency' in the spirit of this thread. Aside from the stuff that everyone takes as matter of course such as the correct cables, stands, earplugs, etc, my only emergency items are a Behringer BDI21, a clip on tuner, 9V batteries, a multi tool and a couple of sharpies.

I didn't really use the pockets on gig bags, so I started putting some backup items in there. Each bass case now has a 99p strap from ebay, a few picks and a cheap 3m jack-jack cable. I can at least plug into something as long as I've got a bass with me.
