Zoom went Boom!!!!

I have a zoom B91.ut multi effects module which has until last week worked problem free. I have plugged in and the function/volume pedal is not working? 

At first the volume would drop away without touching the pedal and the come back as I volumed down and back up. 

My basses are active basses and wondered if this would have any affect on the overall performance/lifespan of the pedal?

(Batteries are checked and double checked in the basses).

Advice welcome as I am not ready to part with it just yet unless I must

Doesn't that one have a preamp valve in it?

Maybe check or replace the valve?

Doubt the nature of the bass would make much difference, especially if the active's are all you have used with it.
