It's amazing how the 'all on 10' brigade don't understand the less is more concept. Start with tone controls 'off' (in this case EQ is flat... then just add to suit taste :)
I have just gone from "No Spectors" to two in the last month! I found my first acquisition, a Black Cherry ReBop 5 very easy to get the best tone from. It is more in line with my Wal and my other active bass setups, with B-T-P-V configuration.

I loved it so much I bought a Euro 5, (again in Black cherry - I've a thing about purple!!) which is absolutely amazing to play, but I am really struggling with the tone.

I've been playing for 30 years, and would not consider myself an "all on 10" man, but I cannot yet find a sound that is as subtle as the ReBop or my Wal.

Would it be a stupid idea to swap the pre-amps (no not the Wal's!!), as the GAS fund is now completely depleted. or has anyone got something to trade that might help me?

You could always swap out the active EMG's for passive EMG-Hz soapbars (as in your ReBop)....

I have a Spector USA NS5-XL which, as far as i knew, had the Tone Pump fitted. However I've just been reading the owner's manual and it says the controls do not ahve any center detents & mine certainly do.

Does this mean I actually don't have the Tone Pump fitted?

I haven't really played much with the controls but they sound like they are centred with both boost & cut as opposed to a more direct boost only circuit?

My NS5-XL is the same , its not a Tone Pump. I think its a EMG thing designed by Spector.

I've removed the Tone Pump on my Euro and replaced it with an EMG BTS system, sound is much better IMHO.
