I am a fairly unsophisticated player.  Until very recently i was using a 4 x 10 speaker on top of a 1 x 15 speaker with a 500 watt peavey t max.

I did not go through the pa

Recently for the smaller pub gigs and private parties I have been using a GENZ BENZ shuttle 6 or a shuttle 3  with 1 or 2 TC electronics RS210

I am thinking for the very small venues of DI ing into the PA

so the question is can i use the shuttles as a DI ( without speakers )or do they have to have a speaker load like my T max

Your shuttle doesn't need a speaker load, it'll be just fine as a DI. Better than fine actually, I've never played one but people really rate their DI very highly.

I think only valve amps need a load, you'll be fine, save you a load of hassle too! I've just ordered another 15" powered speaker/monitor for our PA that'll be using more often with a DI instead of  a backline more often in the future. So long as you have a decent PA it's a good call.
