bloke_zero
Hi! I'm thinking of putting together a pbass that sort of hits that 'duh' woody spot and was interested in trying out a pbass body in mahogany. I was looking at MJT in the states as they will build one to order and I have a thing about their candy tangerine nitro finish, but I saw these guys: https://www.guitarandbassbuild.co.uk/collections/ready-ship-bass-bodies/pb-45-string-bodies/bass-guitar-body-precision-alder-2pc-2-25kg-161019p1/ And wondered if anyone had any experience with them, or suggestions for keeping it in the uk? Really I'm not too worried about the finish.

bloke_zero
Hmm, that looks like it's probably PHILIPPINE MAHOGANY (RED MERANTI) - thanks though.
Rexel Matador
I bought one of those Gear4Music bodies and I really think they should make it clearer they're not quite a standard P-Bass shape. I had a neck and scratchplate from a Squier Matt Freeman and neither fitted properly. I couldn't get the control area of the scratchplate to cover the cavity. Also, when I asked, they told me it was unfinished, and when it arrived, it had a thick glassy gloss finish on it!

Aftermarket bodies made in china rarely fit the fender spec, however there are exceptions - I found Harley Benton P bass bodies are to fender spec. I think the thin bit of the neck pocket broke when I was putting it in - so possibly my fault as much of anything. I remember it all being very awkward. The scratchplate definitely didn't fit. tom1946
gear4music bodies are only 61 mm so fender necks won't fit, however their own necks fit fine. I know, I've built a few. HTH
prowla
I'm not sure what wood it is, but there's a Peter Cook Mighty Mite bass body which keeps appearing on some selling sites. It originally had the neck too, but I guess they sold that.
