Dood
Due to the excessive amounts of porn contained within the original Bassworld and subsequent BassTalk forum threads for this build, I have decided to make a concise photo-diary of the complete build on one page. Over the space of around 9 months, the original posted thread saw over 950 replies on more than 30 pages of posts and gained over 29,000 hits/views!! Obscene! I managed to grab this screen shot for posterity what must have been a few weeks before we lost everything from Bassworld and BassTalk. I do have a rough backup of every page from my thread, but it would have been impossible to repost. I was so excited to have got such a warm response from all of you on the forum and I think it is fair to say that everyone contributed towards the build of my bass in one way or another. THANK YOU!!! OK.. so here it is, the compressed edition of the mammoth "Doodle" thread! [drum roll] The complete Doodle build diary! Once again, as per the original threads, I invite your comments and input. My bass has already had some cutomisations since the completion of the build and I will be adding to the thread with details soon! Happy reading! Dan. jwbassman
Hey Dan Just looked over you 'rough' build page - there's nothing rough about it mate - absolutley stunning what an awesome bass... *mental note to self, I've got to arrange that visit so I get to see it in the flesh* John

Dood
Hey! Thanks guys. I'm certainly no web designer, so the page was knocked up quite quickly! Over the coming weeks I'll be updating and tidying to make it all posh n' everythin'. The pictures are in there, which is the most important bit.. one or two are round the wrong way tho' *laughs* laziness!!
Bassmonster
some shots i hadn't seen before i'm sure?, cool page dood, and just to let you know doodle was the clincher for me when i decided to buy shuker
alexclaber
I didn't realise quite how similar our tastes were: Mostly wenge neck (and practically neck-thru), ash body, EMG pickups, deep cutaway, long horn, ramp... I'll overlook the extra strings! Nice build diary, remarkable bass! Alex

I'm hoping the next Shuker project will have the same effect on people too! Thanks chap, I appreciate the kind words. I am quite a 'utilitarian' if thats the right word to use. First and foremost I treat my bass as a tool and a tool has got to work well, (at it's best even) be it ergonomics or whatever. So it was just a case of figuring out how to get rid of all those annoying things about other basses that I hate. Jon has an eye for making whats left look really pretty! Cheers Alex! I went through numerous ideas on scale length and string count, from 34" four to 33-36" fanned six, before settling on 36" five. Likewise with electronics - although the Q-Tuners were an early choice it took long time to decide on the exact positions and I considered all manner of controls - from onboard preamps with lots of EQ to all passive series/parallel switching on each pickup, mid cut and control bypass switching in addition to the simple vol, tone, 4-way pickup switch I finally settled on. I knew I wanted good balance and a big cutaway but Robbie came up with the body shape that solves the problem and looks good. We just differ on finishes - I prefer non- or lightly figured bare wood with oil/wax finish, so it may dent and scratch easily but big problems can be easily sanded out whilst small marks just add character - I guess your fancy finish is much more damage resistant in the first place. Alex
Nope.. it's had it's first ding already! *GULP*. To be honest, I do expect the bass to get bashed. Despite being a 'fancy' finish, I know that it will get battle scars n' stuff. Especially with guitarists with pointy headstocks around heh heh. I guess I'll just see what happens if there are any big dings or damage coming. ££££ probably! Dood
I need to move the build diary to a new host soon. I'll give you a shout when I have done it, cos I'll need to make sure it can still be accessed with a new link. Watch this space!
Dood
Whilst in a discussion about heavy gauge strings, I thought it'd be nice to bump this thread up for new basschatters to take a look at my build diary. Hope you enjoy!
Myke
I love how your 'temporary' website is still up That finish is gorgeous and the heel idea is brilliant P.s. Yes I know this is a thread resurrection but it deserves it and I just had to comment!
voxpop
I was so impressed with thIs bass I got Jon to build two custom basses for me. I would recommend anyone considering a custom build to give him a ring.

I'll no doubt have it with me at the London Bass Show in March if you wanna come see it in the flesh!
MrT-Bass
Such a shame I couldn't make the bass show this year Dan, it would have been good to have a "show me yours, I'll show you mine" Shuker moment another time hopefully!
