AndyTravis Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Well. eBay rummaging. Found this. it was set on a BIN and I thought “I’ll have that” - it was cheap. But listed as needing TLC. Thought it was worth it as a project. It’s pretty scratched up, and has some chips on the headstock. Also frets are worn and need dressing. But it works. So I’m debating what to do, have been talking to @Dood about these as he’s got 2 of them. thinking I’ll keep hold of it as a long term project. I might drop fill the chips on the headstock to prevent them getting worse. Not 100% if I’ll do much more than that. the Machine heads are 3 fender and one defunct schaller drop tuner - so I might get some schaller bmf’s, the bridge has been replaced with a gotoh 201, but I’m thinking a black omega or badass. and then, if I’m using it...I’m thinking treating it to a LPB or Burgundy Mist refinish. 7 Quote
bassfan Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 Would look so much better not black! 👍🏻 Burgundy sparkle?? 😂 Quote

I think a decent refin could be done for about £200. Sparkle refin is about £350...don’t want to go above the entire refurb costing £400 in total. Edited November 9, 2019 by AndyTravis Quote
bassfan Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 I guess you need to make sure it’s a keeper first mate, might be worth it then 2 Quote

Going to take it to rehearsal on Monday, see if it fits in. Think I have my p/j needs sorted with the BB to be honest. Quote
TheGreek Posted November 9, 2019 Posted November 9, 2019 That's the strangest looking Yamaha I've seen in ages....and they've mis-spelt "Yamaha" using the letters "F-e-n-d-e-r".... As somebody who works in the Education system Andy i would have thought you'd have spotted that..... 2 Quote

Lots of surface scratches, suppose its unavoidable on a 32 year old black bass. think “all black” is just a bit pedestrian for my taste. 1 Quote

Burgundy Mist is a personal fave of mine too. Shell Pink if you're brave enough. Quote

Dood Posted November 10, 2019 Posted November 10, 2019 Thank you for the tag! Yes I have a pair of these! I will post some pictures! (Re:burgundy mist) if you want drop in like for like tuners, the Gotoh FB30 is the same. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if the stock keys were Gotoh OEMs back in the late 80’s. I prefer them actually, as the longer key “stalks” seem to suit the bass. Quote

Both of mine are absolutely lovely. Quote

AndyTravis Posted November 16, 2019 Author Posted November 16, 2019 Well. I’ve got a black (rather than Cosmo black) gotoh 201 arriving. Bought some new pickup screws. They’re not the right thing. think I’ll polish it tomorrow and tidy it up. then I’ll list it for sale. haven’t got the time nor inclination to take on a project at the minute. And want the money back in the pot for Christmas. Quote
AngelDeVille Posted November 16, 2019 Posted November 16, 2019 Two days and about $10 in supplies.... including the defret. before... after... 3 Quote

Did the first layer of infill on the headstock this afternoon. It’s a very very nice thing... might give it a chance. Every time I put it away I forget how nice it is. Every time I pull it out of the case...boom I’m in love again. Quote
