It's very vintage sounding. Although I do have it stringed with D'Addario Flats which helps.

I'd say that the output is much stronger than the 60s jazz basses I have owned (and still own). Personally, it's ideal for recording and live stuff. Again, it's the nicest jazz I have played and has transformed my view on the modern instruments they're making. 

It's actually the first ever new bass Ive bought. I'm not going to get into the vintage debate, but personally I can't justify the vintage price tag now when you get so much less for the money.
