henry norton
I've been given a Behringer Bass v-amp as I don't play live at the moment and don't have the space for an amplifier. I'm dead pleased at being able to listen to what I'm playing now although it's all a bit overwhelming when all I really needed was a headphone amp... Does anyone else here use one? crez5150
I have one that just sits in one of the racks in my studio..... should really play with it I guess
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
I've4 got a v-amp pro. Don't really use it enough either. Good fun tho' despite the lame manuals . One thing that is very annoying...on the Behringer website all downloads are pc only and not mac
henry norton
Yeah you're right at that Ray, the manuals really are rubbish. Apparently there's a virtual analogue MIDI synth built in but I'm buggered if I can find it. That said, I am the person who gave up his MusicMan for a Precision 'cos it had too many knobs and switches......
ironside1966
I have one and love it but the presets a rubbish. Find a amp you like then treat it like a normal amp. You would not just plug in to a real amp and not change the EQ
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
I think it's a great toy. I wouldn't feel confident gigging with it. (plus the fact your bandmates may get a bit miffed if you're looking for certain sounds) I think that if you really want a certain amp sound, then the best thing is to save up and buy that make of amp.If you need to colour your sound after that ,then consider getting seperate pedals or if you are really adventureous -a less complicated effects unit. I would not use one live but I am happy with recorded sound of my V-amp but again you need reasonable speakers or headphones to get the best out of one
jim_bass
Mac software for V-amp... http://www.wabbitwanch.com/iVAMP.html I have the V-Amp pro and have used a M-Audio Midi/USB adapter to connect it to my Mac. I also used the software on the website to program my FCB1010 midi foot controller. Incidentally, I'm selling the V-amp now to fund a new amp if anyone is interested.... tony two-tone
are there any difference between the rack and more kidney shaped one?
I always thought they were the same... Ive had the rack mounted one for some years now, and when i first bought it, i couldnt play with out it...but now i find that EQing the amp is enough for me. Maybe if i bought a footswitch for it id use it more... anyone know where to get them?//If theyre any good?
mrdirtyrob
I'm actually selling one of these as well because I never seem to use it.
BOD2
are there any difference between the rack and more kidney shaped one?
The sounds are the same but the rack mount one has more options for connecting to other equipment - more space for various different connectors at the rear. It's not a bad device for the price. To use it with a footswitch you'll need a MIDI footswitch as the V-amp works entirely through MIDI. That tends to make the footswitch a bit more expensive and complex than you might otherwise want. Behringer do the FCB1010 footswitch, which is a general purpose MIDI switching device but which defaults to presets that work with V-amps. It is completely programmable (MIDI commands) but good luck to you if the Behringer manual is your first experience of MIDI ! (it's actually not too complicated once you get the hang of it). BUT.... the FCB1010 is BIG ! You'll look like a guitard with a massive pedal board !

I also recently learned you can download presents from their tone library, but again...its all MIDI.
rodl2005
I think they're a darn good bit of FUN kit. I DID gig mine a few times... but really got 'A' sound I liked & stuck to it after a while ....so I just got the amp.. :-) BUT IMO the V-AMP 's amp models etc are pretty good- especially the GUITAR ones- excellent!! Some of the FX are OK too. I made a great P-FUNK keys bass sound!! I don't use mine now either- but it occasionally comes out so I can prac along w/ a CD w/ headphones!! Good cheap stuff IMO.
If you're using the FCB1010 with a V-amp then you can "reset" the FCB1010 to a mode whereby it is automatically configured to control the V-amp - no MIDI program knowledge is required. If you want to download presets for the V-amp you need to connect it to your computer. This is easy enough to do but you'll need a computer-to-MIDI cable (either USB-to-MIDI or JoystickPort-to-MIDI). There's software for the V-amp available to download free and this gives you a better user interface to program the V-amp and to load presets. It all works very well but you do need the right cable.
