Just snaffled this 48 y/o beauty. Weighs just over 7 pounds, which is fabulous for my back/shoulders. Just need to sell a couple of basses to pay for it now!

My first half decent bass was a Musicmaster, in that colour
Looks a nice bass Clarky - enjoy :)

PS. I know how it feels - I am forever having to sell something, as a consequence of having already spent money on something else bass-related ;)

That really is a thing of beauty, it looks to be in great condition for the age.

It has a lot of finish checking and crazing that don't appear in my pictures (other than of the headstock) but that makes me like it even more!

So @Clarky - you get yourself a nice vintage, lightweight bass -  to help with your back & shoulders.....
Then decide you have to use a big, heavy, shoulder & back-killing-rig to play it though..... lol ;)

Not my rig, this is the permanent rig at Brixton Hill Studios.

I have a Terror Bass and  a Barefaced cab!

How do you find the real thing compares to the MIJ red Mustang?

I've only got a 1970 P and a 2015 MIJ Mustang to compare, and the old P has something more resonant, deeper and perhaps softer about the tone, but there's not a huge amount in it (especially when cranked live).

TBH there really isnt much difference sonically, maybe the MIJ has a bit more treble bite and '71 more woody lows but its marginal. The MIJ is slab whereas the '71 has a belly cutout (which I sadly need!) - the latter is lighter by 1 pound, probably due mainly to this.

Both are great basses but I love the mojo, weight and vintageness (its a word) of the '71 more

Yes i'm reaching the age of needing a belly contour too - maybe i should follow your example ha ha.

It looks stunning in that blue with competition stripes

I get a lot of interest taking my (plain white) Mustang to gigs - mainly from other band members who start off going: "What's that little thing?" and a few songs in go: "Wow that bass sounds great!"

Gotta love a Mustang.
