Olivetti17
Hi all. I'm doing a lot of new cover songs for.multiple bands atm. I get most of my tracks on youtube music. What do folk on here use to find the tempo of a track? And even better,to recall that tempo at a live gig. I have started using both 'setlist helper' and ultimate guitar apps.but both age and ability not going my way lately. Thanks
paul_c2
I have a metronome app on my phone, it has tap tempo. Also, I have (in the past) used a piece of software which would identify the tempo of a song opened on it eg WAV or MP3.

Thanks Would have thought your drummer would set the tempo, the danger in YT versions is they may not be true to the original tempo anyway? pete.young
Some metronome apps have the ability to listen to a piece of music, or a heartbeat , or similar and work out how many beats per minute. I don't use one, but try a search on Beats Per Minute or similar and see what comes up for your mobile phone of choice.
MrCrane
Typing <name of song> tempo in Google generally gets you in the ballpark
Olivetti17
Thanks folks, very helpful answers, as for relying on your drummer to set the tempo,i don't think that theory has reached Leicestershire just yet!
la bam
For me, I just go off feel if I'm starting anything, or anything else has to be drummer lead. Lock in with your drummer and you'll be fine. If it's too fast or too slow you'll feel it, rather than know it from memory.
ambient
Count the beats for 15 seconds, multiply it by four.

Bassalarky
I do as Paul_c2 said: a metronome app where you can tap the tempo. I also use an old Boss TU-80 tuner/metronome that has this feature and write the tempo on the setlist if it's an issue.
Davo-London
Drummers use the tip of knowing famous songs such as Alright Now and fixing that tempo in their DNA. Then if you need a song at 120 BPM just hum Alright Now in your head and hey presto! Peace Davo
mikel
Its the responsibility of the person who starts the song, or the drummer to count in. Youtube versions are not always correct.
