Simple Synth emulator setup

I've got a mini 32-key midi keyboard and discovered that with a little tweaking Ignite's 'scanner pad' it can do a vaguely convincing facsimile of the introduction of Kasabian's 'Club Foot'. Bt Ignite requires a PC. Can anyone recommend a small box  that is stuffed with sounds that can be controlled by a usb midi keyboard?

Or am I better getting an old PS470?  (I used to love my old one back in the 90s)

There's loads of hardware synth modules (EMU Proteus springs to mind) that would fulfil your brief, but if you're after more modern sounds, there's solutions that allow you to connect the keyboard to an ipad.
