To be fair Ceremony by New Order is pretty simple but a very effective bass line

Lots of Peter Hooks line are like that, you don't need to be flash to make a song.

Are you sure?

Every note is stopped and it's a relatively fast tempo. I can't get beyond the end of the first verse before my left hand seizes up.

I find it easy enough, it's just having enough stamina and strength.

Again are you sure?

From what I can see from the various live videos of the Simple Minds playing the song the repeating D is a sequenced synth part. The bass guitar plays something else that appears to follow the guitar part.

Not totally no, I always assumed it was just D but will admit I've never broken it down.

I'll have a look later.

I didn’t count, I just got with the rhythm 🙂

Our guitarist has the solo bang on, so it's possible to know where you are from it!

We're dropping the second solo, it's just drags it out too long though.

It’s a great tune, and I remember the video , 1983 🙂

Eliminator is teh only ZZ album I have. i shoudl get Tres Hombres too...

If you do, make sure you get a version with the original 1973 mix. From the mid-80's up to 2006 the only CD / digital release available was a horrible remix of the original recordings and there are still lots of copies floating around out there.

Speaking from bitter personal experience here.

A great example of how playing one note only through an entire song is all about feel, so it's not as easy a song to play as the single note idea would suggest

Running with the Devil, but slowed down a bit?

Anything by The Doors.  Their bassist is very easy to emulate 🤣

Wasn’t a certain amount of their bass work by the great Jerry Scheff?

We play Snow Patrol’s ‘You’re All I Have’ as a first set opener.

Verse E / A repeated, chorus A / B repeated, all eighth notes...

Not much of a challenge to play, but it goes down well and is a nice easy way to ease into the set.

I think Scheff only played on the LA Woman LP, but they had other session bassists in for most of their studio sessions; it was usually only live when Mr Manzarek's left hand took over the role.

Or how about 'Chant #1 (I Don't Need This Pressure On) by Spandau Ballet.  Same 5 notes played in a repeating scale throughout the song.

Used to play that, always went down well.
