I had a mate do this to a lead guitar I had once. He borrowed it and said he would 'tinker' with it. I nearly wrapped it round his head.
If it had been a bass he would have been never walked the same again!

I refuse to believe that a Squier JV precision could be worth that much.

As I've posted a few times today mine cost me £149 in 1984....and it needed refretting after a few months - the original frets seemed very soft- and proper setting up to make it playable....I wonder how much mine might be worth these days?

At least it's cheaper than this one. :)

Many of us have owned Squier JV's (inc me owning one of the big Fender logo ones) and yes back in the early 80s paying the price that you say because ultimately they were cheap Fender copies. TBH the consensus is that JVs are worth what someone is prepared to pay! Colour, condition/originality, exact age etc. all affect value.

A collector might pay over the odds for the likes of this bass that you have highlighted seeing as how it is an early one with the big Fender/small Squier logo but many players will view it and think "right, what would I pay for an 82 Fender Jap bass" in which case quite frankly anything running above a few hundred quid is overpriced. Some of the early JVs may well p*ss all over some of their Fender counterparts of that period for build quality but the silly pricing of them is down to collectability and more than a few '40 somethings', with disposable income hankering after the bass of their youth. Supply and demand!

As to what yours is worth... Genuinely, to me as with any JV about £300, to some on this forum possibly more (and a few would say less) and on eBay... I've seen them go for £275 (an 82 but not big F logo) and supposedly ( :) who mentioned shill bidding  ) as much as £1k for a very early example. Bear in mind that yours is an 84 so I wouldn't go booking your flights to the Caribbean on the strength of a possible big money eBay sale. :D

I bought it in 84 (sold as new but I believe old stock) but tonight I'm going to check the serial to establish when it was made.

It is EXACTLY like this one here: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26004 - but mine is a little more 'mojoed'.

If the seller had accepted PayPal and not restricted sales to the UK, he would have got a lot more. He only received one bid.

I'm think of publishing a book called 'How to piss money up the wall'

Chapter One.

Donate your money to ebay by listing a 9 year old bass that retails for around £1200 new and stick it up for sale on ebay with a starting price and buy it now of £1450.

Clever

Really cheap for a SB1000 :) I paid £350 for a '80 minter from a shop a year and a half ago.

I liked that. As if to imply that basses are normally taken out of their cases for use as cricket bats, battering rams, surfboards and so on.

£900 with the reserve not met. They were about £600 new and would be lucky to fetch £350 used at the moment. Whoever sold the bass to this guy obviously saw him coming from a mile away if he's just looking to make his money back...almost feel sorry for him.

Over priced original Urge, they are not that rare or desirable. Also note in the conditions that he will not supply additional pictures, there's good customer service for you.
