2wheeler
I went to see the James Taylor Quartet in York on Friday and it was absolutely fantastic. I could waffle on about virtuoso talent but that wasn't the point - the point was brilliant entertainment from start to finish. And Andrew McKinney is a monster on bass. I shall be paying more attention to his Bass Guitar Magazine column from now on. Go and see them if you get the chance. Edited January 19, 2009 by 2wheeler
Kiwi
I agree! All the players for JTQ have been monsters, Andrew, Gary and Ian King. Ian was a member here for a short time until he had a negative expereince via PM in regard to a bass he was trying to sell.

geilerbass
Wow, I was once taught general music theory by Andy McKinney, at the Guitar Institute. Glad to see he's getting some success.
XB26354
Oh - quite a surprise. I went to music college with him and tbh I didn't think he would turn out a pro. There were quite a lot of musicians finding their feet. I can remember him asking me something about improvisation. It was a very long time ago and he must have been pretty young then. He was a nice bloke as I remember so more power to him. Goes to show what practice and dedication can get you!

62P-Bass
Hi there, A friend sent me a link to this discussion so thought I'd sign up. Thanks for the kind words - we had a blast in York. We played the Sage in Gateshead the next night and that too was awesome. Great audiences at both. And yes, that was me at Bass Day UK. There's a video here: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=XjXM6OITNok It's John Wheatcroft on guitar, and Adam Betts (also in JTQ) on drums. urb
Yeah they might have been around for years but their new album 'New World' is their best in ten years or more, loads of great tunes, jazzy solos and killler funk lines from Andy and drummer Adam Betts is a monster too... I highly recommend the new album; it's like old school Jamiroquai, minus the annoying vocals and with balls! Mike
sfisher0
I second that about 'New World' - it's pretty much the only thing I have been listening to recently and I am seeing JTQ at Havant in July. Saw them last time when touring the Fourth Dimension line-up that had Andrew playing bass and I was very impressed and it made me want to get back into playing.
