John Cruz

John Cruz came to Fender in 1987, joined the Custom Shop in 1993 and became a Master Builder in 2003. Being a guitarist and understanding what a great guitar should look, feel and sound like has always been a top priority for him. Custom guitars are his passion, and he is the man behind several famous Custom Shop instruments, including the replica of Stevie Ray Vaughan’s famous “Number One” Stratocaster guitar, the Jeff Beck Esquire Relic (as used with the Yardbirds), the replica of Yngwie Malmsteen’s famous “Duck” Stratocaster, the John Mayer Limited Edition Black 1 Stratocaster, And most recently The Famed limited Edition Gary Moore 1961 Fiesta Red Stratocaster as well as countless others.

Fantastic bit of kit, but that ks nothing more than profiteering of the back of Lynott and Lizzy fans.  Were the great man alive I'm sure he wouldn't allow those sorts of prices associated with his name.

Arguably the top Fender Custom Shop Master Builder. Even his non-limited-edition Masterbuilt instruments are well over £5k.

Not that I’d pay £11k for this!!

Anderton`s did a video of the Tele`s a few weeks back. They are still boxed up and if you buy them, you can go on the show and open them!

Just so you can see on camera just how much you have wasted yer cash!

1. Take bog standard production line instrument.

2. Add minor bells and whistles.

3. Slap the name of someone famous/dead/dead and famous on it.

4. Charge an arm and a leg.

5 Kerching.

One of Phils girlfriends left him, and after she'd gone he found some of her belongings, including a mirror from her budgie cage. He attached it to his bass in the hope she would see it at a gig and come and talk to him.  She never did, but the reflections from the spots in the smoky venue made the audience think he had a lazer on his bass.  This gave him the idea to have an all mirrored bass made, but this proved too much.  He settled on the middle ground of a mirroed scratch plate.

I have the biography too, which is actually quite vague and doesn't even mention from where he obtained the mirror, and doesn't actually contradict me.  In addition, the book was written decades after his death, so the author was clearly unable to ask to the man himself.

The tale I told was a radio interview with Lynott himself which I heard with my own wee ears (Caroline? It was decades ago, obviously).  He may, of course, have made it up.
