jimmy23cricket Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 So loving the CTM 30, decided to take the plunge on an ABM 600 Evo IV. Hoping it will become my main gig amp. Photos and sales of other gear to follow! 2 Quote
Mudpup Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 That is a great bit of kit...... Enjoy 😊 Quote
0175westwood29 Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Great bit of kit! love mine! just love my orange Ob1-500 a tad more! Quote
MichaelDean Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 (edited) I got one a few weeks ago - as all have said, they're great amps! I particularly like the bit of edge engaging the valve gets you. I have it set so it's not in your face, but it just adds warmth and will snarl a bit if I dig in a bit more. Enjoy! Muppet Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 (edited) This head with the right cab is superb. BF610 is perfect! Edited December 15, 2019 by Muppet Quote
TheGreek Posted December 15, 2019 Posted December 15, 2019 Good buy!!! Don't forget to contact Guy at the office in Essex and have it serviced for practically nothing... Quote
jimmy23cricket Posted December 16, 2019 Author Posted December 16, 2019 Woohoo, it’s here! Looks good, firing up for rehearsals tonight. quick question though, all my amps have only ever had one speakon output. This has two! So 1 4ohm cab off each output is fine yes? Or do I just take one and daisy chain the cabs at 8ohm? thanks! Quote
pete.young Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 2 x 8 Ohm cabs, one off each output, will give you a total of 4 Ohms. So will daisy-chaining 2 x 8 Ohm cabs. 2 x 4 Ohm cabs will give you a total load of 2 Ohms, which probably isn't such a good idea. Quote
jimmy23cricket Posted December 17, 2019 Author Posted December 17, 2019 Quick run through last night. Nice bottom end indeed. Quick question on the valve drive though, how sensitive are they? Cranked mine right up and and best its more like a boost rather than an out and out drive? That the same on all yours? Quote

Don't know if the same would be true for the Evos, but I've found with my CTM heads that if you really want to make them crunch, your best bet is to push the mid frequencies. Might be a different story if the Evo has a dedicated drive stage, but if there's any similarity with their voicing, the mids will probably give you the clarity to help that lovely soft clipping to shine through. Yep it just warms and thickens the sound of mine. Close your eyes and it could be an all valve head with the gain set not too high. Not an overdriven distortion - unless it's up full and you really dig in then it breaks up a bit. But I don't think it's really meant for that. It's more to give the sound a little valve compression and dirty things up so it's not too smooth. I find it helps the bass in the mix and gives it character. 1 Quote

Yes, it thickens the sound up, adds harmonics and if you dig in some grit but not a pedal-like drive. Quote
Painy Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 If you want to get a bit more break up then it's fine to crank the input gain right up and push the VU needle into the red but as everyone has said its more a bit of grit and extra harmonics than full blown distortion. Quote
