But at least there's the occasional "interesting" instrument around. Maybe they got a bulk discount on the abalone. Edit: Do those pickups look quite wide for a 4 string? josh3184 Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 just a tad wide o.O Seen this guy before, he's been around for a while if I remember right- good find tho, more abalone than wood! Quote
budget bassist Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 looks like an antoniotsai or something, and yeah those pickups are a bit wide!! Quote
skankdelvar Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 That's not abalone. It's 50,000 whelk shells. Quote

MB1 Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 MB1. Looks like another Antonatsai bass and if so the price could be a litttle steep! Quote

That alone even at minimum wage would account for a fair slice of cash, the skeleton of the bass may be a brandless BO average bass but at £300 it can't be accused of being too expensive. Ultimately if it plays like a pice of sh*t then it is a piece of sh*t but were I after something to stand out from the crowd I'd give it a second look. Quote

Dr.Dave Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 I think it's too much on the fingerboard but I quite like the body inlays. I don't like the bass much , like it's built from spares , but I like the body. Quote

This seller actually has some alright stuff. There was an acoustic bass much more tastefully inlaid which didn't sell at 67p no reserve. I only didn't buy it because of the high shipping cost. Quote

Cant Dispute it stands out! but If it is Antonatsai he does do them cheaper than this!. Quote
Annoying Twit Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 I do like the dinosaur inlays on the fretboard of the six. Though, much of the rest doesn't do it for me. Quote
tauzero Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I'm pretty sure the first one isn't an Antoniotsai. His are generally neck-throughs - he does a few notlobs these days but not many, and they're generally J- or P-type. Bruce Wei is either an offshoot of Antoniotsai or a second outlet - the six-string neck and body is identical (except for the inlaying) to the Antoniotsai one that I'm making painfully slow progress in adding bits to. Top horn is a bit on the short side so I think it'll have some neck dive when it's done. Neck feels really nice though. Now I'm getting tempted to buy a Bruce Wei 5-string... Quote
wizbat Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I,d be very wary of one of these inlaid fingerboards unless you are handy with fret stoning and filing as my tony tsai 7 string took a lot of work to get playing well. Still it was worth the effort as it sounds great. Quote
Tinman Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Pah, that's nothing If you want inlays, take a look at what those loons at PRS do to a guitar. http://www.davesguitar.com/product/02730.JPG Quote
Low Down Dave Posted February 13, 2009 Posted February 13, 2009 It is a matter of taste and I am sure some people do like them as they look impressive, and you expect to have to set them up and perhaps even level the frets ect, but it is worth noting I have come across a few of these inlaid basses were the frets are incorrectly spaced so they can not be played in tune. And never touch the acoustics as the wood is not dried properly and will crack over time. Dave. Quote
