Tech 21 DP-3x vs Para Driver

Hi,

I have a DP-3x and a VT Bass v2 on my board , along with other pedals.

I love the bottom end the DP gives but I'm looking for a warmer gritty sound for the harmonic saturation.

Would the Para Driver be able to do this? Does anyone have both and is able to provide a comparison?

Thanks

G

It’s a difficult one, I am lucky that I managed to find a sweet spot for my ears, but it took a whole week of almost non stop tinkering to get what I needed and to know it inside out.

There will be a sweet spot, and maybe there is one stacking it with the VT. I have had success in stacking mine too

There’s a great demo of the Para Driver on YouTube, the reviewer gets a great SVT style sound which tempted me to buy one. I have a much harsher sound than that but the Para Driver is capable of some nice harmonics due to the sweepable mids. As with anything you have to keep at it though.

Cheers Lozz. Do you have a link for it at all?

Paradriver no, but I successfully get what I got combining the DP3x and Lehle sonic spark, and also the DP3x into the VTBass head

I run from an MXR compressor into the DP into an Orange head. Massive sound albeit the dirt element can be a little harsh for my taste and our sound.

I also run a CaliCB into the DP3X and then into whatever amp - we all know Orange has some decent girth on it - I have found myself pulling back the chunk and drive a little of late to even clean up, Ben maybe playing nearer the neck could just give you that sweet spot, or if you are using roundwounds strings , something like TI flats give enough bite to sound nasty but can also be more organic

The DP-3X rolls off the treble on the DI out, therefore putting out a brighter sound from the main output. This works well for me playing a Terror Bass into tweeterless cabs, but I could very well see it being too bright into a more hifi amp and/or full range cab. If you're using tweeters, have you tried rolling them all the way off?

Cheers Danny, I'll give that a bash.
