Bilbo Posted January 21, 2009 Share Posted January 21, 2009 Does anyone know how an adult (like, me) can go about sitting a GCSE in Music? I know you can do all sorts of things in evening classes and stuff but Music is never in the lists. I want to do the exams more than the course itself but would do it if I had to. Eight Posted January 22, 2009 Share Posted January 22, 2009 If I remember rightly, you can enter yourself for any exam but I don't know the ins and outs e.g. where you would sit it, whether you'd be expected to organise your own room under regulated conditions etc. etc. Might be worth ringing the exam board and talking to them about it. EssentialTension Posted February 1, 2009 Share Posted February 1, 2009 (edited) Bilbo, I think you just need to find a local college or school that is willing to take you as an external candidate and act as your examination centre - they don't have to do this but they can and (I think) may charge you. If you phone the relevant examination board, they should be able to tell you which centres near you would provide such a service. I work in a Sixth Form College and we regularly have the odd (in more ways than one) external candidate. The point really is that it must be an accredited examination centre. Good luck. I studied A-Level Music and Grades 7 & 8 Music Theory at college years ago without ever having done the GSCE - all they required was that I sat a Grade 5 crash-course when I started.
