NikNik Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 (edited) Someone's had a go at their Ma's old kitchen table. Love the seemingly random placement of the mono-rails and the G isĀ stillĀ well off! And the A string isn't even in its nut slot! As for the fret-job.....š¤Ø Bass Edited December 19, 2019 by NikNik Quote
Reggaebass Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Wow, I donāt know how they got the mono rails so wrong, they could have used the body stripes as a guide š Quote
Hellzero Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 No, Stevie Wonder built it himself.Ā 1 Quote

machinehead Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Ah, come on lads.Ā Cut him a little slack.Ā That was the first one he built, when he was still in primary school. Frank. Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Say what you like - the chap that built it won't mind as he is dead. He was a bass custom builder and the seller bought up his entire estate Quote
Muzz Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 I hope he kept the receipt if they're all like that... Quote
Paul S Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 Perhaps Mr De Curtains thought the 'fanned bridge' might catch on in the way fanned frets have? Quote

lemmywinks Posted December 19, 2019 Posted December 19, 2019 The nut looks like it's had some odd work done to it, seems like the original slot for the A string is still there but somebody has made a new one in completely the wrong place and used that instead: Ā Seeing as the rest of the bass looks reasonably well built maybe the correct holesĀ are hiding underneath the bridge saddles and the same cackhanded bodger who did the nut has moved them too? Possibly after too many beers during a night out in Lagney? 1 Quote
ped Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 Looks like the A string has just popped out of the nut and the seller didnāt notice for the photo.Ā Quote

Apart from the the fret job, the body shape, the nut, the mono rails, the non continuous body wood back panel (which looks like it was made for a different hole) - apart from that, it looks OK š Assuming it was all made by the same person it isn't a complete wreck, someone at some point would have had to build a working through neck and everything else on it seems straight. That's if it isn't chopped down from an already existing bass for some bizarre reason. Quote

I only saw the partial description on the ebay app. My bad. There areĀ two others in amongst all that bric-a-brac. The centre laminates seem well made but the hardware looks like its just been eyeballed. Ā Ā Edited December 20, 2019 by NikNik 2 Quote
lemmywinks Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 That's what I mean - they all look like someone has taken the time to construct the neck/body laminates then they've been handed over to a complete halfwit for the rest. So odd! 1 Quote
prowla Posted December 20, 2019 Posted December 20, 2019 It's weird - some of the work on it seems really good and other bits are just slap-dash. Quote
