Ataraxia2320
Hey lads and lasseens of basschat!! I need to get me some form of bass ampage for college as im sick to death of not playing plugged in(bringing up the rig isnt really an option here). So im basicly looking for somthing small, cheap and cheerfull to keep me going during the week. Im living on campus in college(pretty well soundproofed though) and i wont be or practicing with it so it doesnt need to be insanely loud. Im just looking for somthing that sounds half decent, and not sterlile sounding if possible. I play a lot of different styles of music, from metal to pop(doing the whole covers band thing at the moment) to grove orientated stuff like jamiroquai so its gotta not crack up at downtunings and it should be able to handle a low b string. So, any tips? Im kinda looking for the bass's answer to the microcube(and yes i know they make microcube bass amps, but there not exactly amazing from what ive heard). alexclaber
As long as you don't expect them to do too loud quite a lot of the smaller practice combos sound pretty damn good - those little 8" speakers tend to do a much better job of the midrange than the cheap larger speakers found in their larger cousins. I doubt you can do wrong with a small Peavey combo, especially if you can pick one up secondhand. Alex
BTGAndy
If you can stretch to £140 the Roland Bass micro cube RX is fantastic.
Musky
Small, cheap and decent? My first thoughts were Peavey as well...
~tl
I got a Hartke A35 for similar purposes – it's a great little amp.
Ataraxia2320
Ok did a bit o scouring, if anyone can let me know if any of these would be worth my while or utter cack let me know: Marshall MB30 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/marshall-b-25-mkii/328 Line 6 LD15 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/78474 Warwck Blue Cab 60 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/69480 Peavy Max 115 http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/peavey...115-combo/68348 Orange Crush http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/crush-cr-35b/68850
alexclaber
Avoid cheap 15" combos like the plague. Those combos are all bigger and louder than you need for practising on your own. I'd look at the 8" speaker versions, they sound nicer, cost less and are easier to move. Don't be fooled by the brand-names, you're more likely to be a worse combo for your money from one of the 'names' than you will from someone that doesn't have a desirable badge. escholl
Ashdown Perfect 10 Seems pretty much just a smaller version of the bass mini-rig I had, which was brilliant. Based off that, would definitely recommend this one. The Ibanez SW35 is also really good, I've got one back in the US that I used for some years. Excellent amp.
dannybuoy
My vote goes for the Peavey Microbass for clear relatively uncoloured sound and low price, and the Orange Crush 35B for something a little louder, more expensive, more vintage sounding, and more badass looking! Earbrass
Sorry to hijack the thread, but I was wondering whether those of you with the Roland Bass micro cube RX could give an opinion on whether it would be loud enough to keep up with acoustic instruments (guitar / hand drums / accordion / vocals) for band practice sessions. If not, does anyone have an opinion as to what is the smallest, lightest amp that could? Thanks!

Quite versatile as well, 2 channels, and very cheap, you can get one secondhand for a very low price, just do some research

Thanks!
For acoustic blues rehearsals with acoustic guitar, snare (played with brushes), harmonica & unmiked vocals, I play my ashbory basses through a little kustom tube12 guitar amp. I also have slightly larger BT15 crate bassamp (also with 8" speaker), the kustom sound much nicer to my ears (I can get a deeper sound out of it) but either is loud enough in an otherwise acoustic setting. It also copes well with my NS CR5M 5 string upright at a similar volume.
