OutToPlayJazz
Usually I'm to the drummer's left (hi-hat side), which is why I've got eardrum damage to my right ear. Noisy bastard drummers!
Tracer
+1 on the hi-hat side.
Apex
Started off on the (right-handed) drummer's right for absolutely no good reason at all. After a while I read something on a website somewhere and made myself thoroughly unpopular by moving to the hi-hat side and disrupting the entire band other than the drummer. We were instantly tighter! Never moved since.
tauzero
Band 1: right-hand side because the guitarist and drummer were the founder members and the guitarist goes on the left. Band 2: no drummer. Band 3: next to the MIDI file player that does the drummer's job. Open mic nights: on the right, whether there's a drummer or not, so I can see the guitarist's left hand. I'm not bothered which side I go. I can play equally badly on either side.
bluesparky
I'm usually stage right, no reason, just am!

nobodysprefect
Gutarand's "Death Stare" when you play a C under an Amin chord and they think you have played a wrong note and want the entire audience to know too.
Or it's 'Living for the City' and you've just hit the 'da-da-da-daa da-da daa' bit But seriously, C under A- man what this isn't jazz gtfo Oh and both sides, depending on the gig. To the right most often.
Linus27
Most drummers I play with have the Hi hat on their left. Are you a left-handed drummer or are you looking at this from the audience viewpoint? Anyway facing the audience I prefer to stand to the drummer left, next to the snare/hi hat so I can see the Kick pedal easily.
Yep me also, drummer's left (hi-hat side). Its the proper side a bassist should be on.
