prowla
And here we have the Red Baron bass... I think I'm going to do some mods to it: Swap the bridge for a Hipshot. Remove the two pickups and use them on something else I've got. Put in a single SD pickup. Replace the pickguard (maybe black). (Maybe) add a Hipshot drop-D eXtender on it. Think about whether to have more play on the Red Baron theme.
prowla
Darn - the Hipshot bridge doesn't work, as the string spacing is wider. Also a Hipshot drop-D eXtender won't fit. I've also had a slight re-think and it's getting a pair of SD pickups. I did have the neck one on another project but I decided to use a Ric one on that. Storky
I made my Hipshot fit my Retrovibe and added Gemini pickups. It’s good!

prowla
Just now, Jus Lukin said: Very cool, Paul! I can see that with an Iron Cross on it, which would fit with the look and name, and Lemmy's penchant for the imagery too. While doing a quick search for The Baron (just to make sure it was an Iron Cross on his wings) one of Google's suggestions was about an American fighter pilot called Eddie Rickenbacker. Couldnt possibly be coincedence- the universe has spoken! Yes - the knights cross (I think that's what it was called) is what I had in mind. Eddie Rickenbacker was Adolf Rickenbacker's cousin and the first one to Americanise his surname from Rickenbacher, to distance himself from the anti-German sentiment in WW I; Adolf then followed his lead a short time later. I just couldn't live with the gap at the top frets. I also have a Schaller 3D bridge and may give that a try. However, I'd be having to fill in the existing holes, as the Retrovibe bridge has screws almost in the same spot, but off-centre.

I know - in retrospect, he could've taken the opportunity to adopt another first name too.... 🙂
