ESP / LTD 2020 Preview

Just got this emailed to me from ESP - this is "phase 2" of their 2020 product launch and unlike "phase 1" includes 2 or 3 basses this time.

I'm not too keen on the "metal" types (I think they are called "F" series) but the "TL" basses look interesting - I'd be interested in giving one a go.

Yeah they’re nice, but the logo/headstock bit too 🤟

in saying that, they make a nice bass.

The F1005 or D5 look like they'd make a decent alternative to my Spector. Still a more modest design than my B.C.Rich Beast bass.

Always felt the need to buy an F and sand the spiky bits off - it’s a nicely proportioned body.

Not a fan of anything there I’m afraid. 
 

I did see some very good looking retro styled ESP basses a couple of years ago; I think they may have been Japan only releases but they looked great.

D6 looks an attractive instrument to my eyes 😊

Going further down the page in guitar territory, I like the sand blasted finish that they've got on some of their guitars - it really brings the grain out.

Meh. I like ESP basses, but these are just existing models with minor tweaks. New designs would have been nice.

The acoustic bass might be new, but I skimmed over that one.

This was a very nice addition last year or year before, but they were nowhere to try...and not cheap enough to buy blind.

Ordered one for the shop I used to work in. I left well before it arrived...

Came back to try it. Wasn’t as good as I’d hoped. But I’d like another go.

Ain't it! See also;

- random knob placement, 

- BBOT bridge (nothing wrong with a BBOT but it looks a bit odd here),

- Odd step in the lower edge of the body, 

- the headstock. 

 

I would say I'm sure it sounds good but your experience suggests otherwise 😂

The D-4 basses look nice, but have a bit of a soft spot for the Stream bass.
