Doctor J Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 Intonating this one would be a lot of fun. As for the nut... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Decurtins-USA-Hand-Made-Cherry-Jazz-Bass-Guitar-Exotic-Hardwood-Long-Scale-2/174128271902?_trkparms=aid%3D1110001%26algo%3DSPLICE.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D20160323102634%26meid%3D2576f821ac824fadbe73181572b5b8e2%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D303260245395%26itm%3D174128271902%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2047675&_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1 Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted December 23, 2019 Posted December 23, 2019 (edited) Dear God... the string spacing is uneven in different ways at each end of the bass... You have to wonder what other, unseen horrors there are other examples with similar 'quirks'. And look at that neat pickup rout and carefully applied varnish: At least this one has even string spacing, even with the unique intonation and failure to line up with the laminations... I suspect the frets have been spaced 'by eye' (or perhaps it's just intonation?) Ouch.. Edited December 23, 2019 by Stub Mandrel Quote
paul_5 Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 (edited) Jesus! That nut’s not even close. string spacing is 19mm, 27mm, 15mm. Trees died for this people, actual trees. 😢 Edited December 24, 2019 by paul_5 Quote
lemmywinks Posted December 24, 2019 Posted December 24, 2019 Maybe it's the natural evolution of multi-scale fanned fret instruments. Graduated string spacing will be cropping up on DIngwalls in 2020 - put your house on it! 1 Quote

Actually, room for 23 if you squeeze them in a bit... Seems such a shame as some aspects of the aesthtics and choice of woods are pretty good, Is suspect more sympathy with working the timber and little practical knowledge of the instrument. Quote
