I can now play it pretty well, but it’s taken me 18 months to learn it. Rest of his stuff, well, I may just have to watch instead!! (I am so much of a fan I bought an EB MM Sterling just like his) I was always a big fan when I was younger, rediscovered them after introducing my daughter to them. I think I learned My Best Friends are Metalheads back in the day very sloppily, figured it might be a little easier to learn now but I was wrong 🤣 1 Quote

Reggaebass Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Taking a break from the Sean Hurley ones and working on a few Robbie Shakespeare Basslines I’ve never got around to playing 1 Quote

Haha I was trying to sing along (badly) to Science of selling yourself short yesterday which is on the easier side bass-wise and it was an omnishambles 🤣 Quote
Grooverjr Posted February 22 Posted February 22 Nights Over Egypt by The Jones Girls. Easy to pick up but keeping it really clean and getting the feel is a bit trickier. And trying to nail the noodly bits in White Rhino Tea by Ozrics. 1 Quote

Quite good fun really, and unlike a lot of the original players my hair isn`t getting in the way of looking at the fretboard as I learn 😂 Always intrigued that metal and rock musicians seem to be immune to hair loss Quote

chris_b Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Depping on a gig on Friday, rehearsing this afternoon, given the set list late last night!!! I know about 25 of the 30 songs, but most of the arrangements are new to me and not straight forward! I got some scribbled notes. We'll see how it goes. Should be interesting! 3 Quote
Si600 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 Hanging Around, Sometimes, No More Heroes, Princess of the Streets, Golden Brown, Something Better Change and for a bit of a change, Mach dich lieber anders tot. 1 Quote
fretmeister Posted March 6 Posted March 6 I am currently working my way through the complete Blues Brothers sound track. I love DD's playing so it's about time I did that. I'm also doing going back to a tune I used to find easy - Metallica's Master of Puppets. I played it for years in covers bands but then I ruptured a tendon in my right hand middle finger and the reduction in mobility has made that song really difficult ever since. To be fair, the recovery was such a drawn out affair that I thought I'd have to swap to playing only with a plectrum (urgh) so being able to play with my fingers at all is a relief. But it's time to unlearn old hand positions and see if I can work out how to do it all over again. 1 Quote
Lozz196 Posted March 6 Posted March 6 From Out of Nowhere by Faith No More. Darn fine song and a great bassline which I wouldn`t have suspected was in it at all. 1 Quote

SteveXFR Posted Sunday at 10:27 Posted Sunday at 10:27 We're covering this in my new punk band. Somehow we've picked out a punk song with multiple time signatures. It's prog punk! 1 Quote
Jonesy Posted Sunday at 11:36 Posted Sunday at 11:36 I hate Elvis Costello, apart from the odd track here and there, so don't really listen to much of his stuff. I know Bruce Thomas is a monster player and this popped up in a playlist the other day...... Wish me luck! 1 Quote
Agent 00Soul Posted Sunday at 12:40 Posted Sunday at 12:40 I've been on a garage rock kick lately. The best thing about that is I can usually learn the bass, rhythm guitar, and lead solo quickly. This morning I did Help You Ann by The Lyres. Quote
sbrag Posted Sunday at 12:56 Posted Sunday at 12:56 Joined a new project playing the Wall so trying to learn the whole album. Focus on Young Lust and Hey You at the moment. Trying to get the fills right and conscious of how exposed the bass is for a lot of it. Quote

Lozz196 Posted Sunday at 12:59 Posted Sunday at 12:59 We’ve just gone through Hazy Shade of Winter (The Bangles version). It’s one of those songs that is actually a fair bit harder than it sounds - well that’s what the rest of the band tell me, it’s easy enough on bass. Quote
