steantval Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Thought I would have a crack at I Wish by Stevie Wonder, finding it tough, so repetitive, drop a note and you are totally out of sync, struggling to play it at the tempo with full accuracy, I think I’m at 90% of the tempo after spending thirty minutes on it. Phew. 1 Quote
Buddster Posted March 24 Posted March 24 Persevere. It's worth it. It's great line to play once you've locked it in. Quote
Woodinblack Posted March 25 Posted March 25 It is - its one of those lines that you can use for warming up or just testing a bass out Quote

Phew. I Wish is a great line and loads of fun to play. Easy to get it most of the way there but the feel is tricky, as is nailing the sound. Those mad upper octave slide wigout things are very cool when you get them right and make you look a total chump if you get it slightly off. SBL did a YouTube vid on it a couple of years ago that was good for breaking down the little bridge bit in the middle and for general advice on feel that you might want to check out. 1 Quote

Phew. It's a hard line - every not counts, and terrific fun. Here, a version with the "weww-weww-weww" slides. I think that I am ready to try that extra bit, having learned the line a few years back. 1 Quote
tony_m Posted March 28 Posted March 28 Having worked up Tom Petty's "I Won't Back Down" and Joe Walsh's "One Day at a Time" over the last couple of rehearsals, we (Rascallion) have decided to take a detour into Steve Miller Band territory, so "The Joker" and "Rock'n Me" are now installed on the faithful Tascam MP-BT1 ready to have a go at. odysseus Posted April 19 Author Posted April 19 You Shook Me All Night Long by AC/DC Ace Of spades by Motorhead Livin on a Prayer by Bon Jovi And I'm learning them all on guitar. Yes kids, I've moved over to the dark side again! I'm not bad on rhythm guitar, but I've never really experimented much with the widdy-widdly, so I'm learning these songs mainly because the solos are reasonably achievable. I bought myself a USA Strat a couple of weeks ago to give me the motivation. Quote

I tried to play this all in one position, down by the nut for ages, but you are right, if you miss a note, you are screwed. Much easier with the slides, even if you revert to playing the walking Bb part down the bottom. My little finger will thank you for this post! Quote
Woodinblack Posted April 19 Posted April 19 Lots of metal songs, started playing with another band so several linkin park songs, audioslave, Muse, Slipnot, Metallica etc. Quote
Stub Mandrel Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Going to be helping out a band whose bassist is expermenting with moving to keys (pressure!) Mostly songs I know (or thought I knew!) Quote
