SH73 Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 Enter Sandman, pretty easy not a lot to learn 2 Quote
asingardenof Posted April 18, 2024 Posted April 18, 2024 Learning Halo by Texas, which I'm finding tricky because the bass is buried in the mix and I can't easily pick it out. Not that it matters because it's got the band and our singist is male, so I may not be able to go low enough with a 4er anyway. Such a shame I don't have the money for a 5er as we seem to be finding more songs that would be better in a lower register so singist can actually sing it. Quote
Guest Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 Holiday by Green Day. Took about 2 minutes to learn, its just a case of repeating it enough times that I don't need to think about it too much. Quote
Cliff Edge Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 Couple of requests for a gig next week so I spent, oh I don’t know, 5 minutes, on Achy Breaky Heart/ Tulsa Time and King of The Road. Quote
ProjeKtWEREWOLF Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 I'm joining a new covers band. Bunch of middle aged blokes having fun. No stress they say. I don't know *any* of this stuff. I sort of remember some of it from 25+years ago. I'm a metal head. Never even heard of some of this stuff. It's a slog. The *list* Little Monster- Royal Blood When I come around-Green Day Pulling Teeth-Green Day She-Green Day Ruby Soho-Rancid All the small things-Blink182 My own worst enemy-Lit Machinehead-Bush Everlong-Foo Fighters My Hero-Foo Fighters All I want to do is rock-Travis Cry to me-Solomon Burke (rocked up) Past Lives-Borns (rocked up/tuned down) Chandelier-Sia (rocked up/tuned down) I stopped to fill my car up-Stereophonics (rocked up) Ashes to ashes-Faith No More Numb-Linkin Park Screamager-Therapy? The Hand that feeds-NIN Recover-Cvrches (rocked up/tuned down) Torn-Natalie Imbruglia (rocked up/tuned down) Tomorrow-James (rocked up/tuned down) Roads-Portishead (rocked up/same speed) Put it on me-Matt Maeson (rocked up/with a solo) 1 Quote
Woodinblack Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 thats a good set. I love doing she, but the rest of the group want to drop it because its not that well known. 1 Quote

The Foo Fighters ones are a bit dull tbh and Linkin Park can suck my balls. 1 Quote

BillyBass Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 I joined a function band a couple of weeks ago. I learnt 12 songs for the audition and now have another 23 to learn. The BL isn't keen on playing pubs, he is more interested in weddings so we might need to add a few more but...the 4 I am currently working on are: I saw her standing there, All my loving - The Beatles Mamma Mia - ABBA Faith - George Michael I'm not a fan of this sort of music but I'm happy to play anything if it is a good song and some of the other songs in the set are to my taste. Of the 35 I would only consider Faith by George Michael to not be a good song, I find it repetitive and dull, but one crap song out of 35 ain't bad. 3 Quote
tauzero Posted May 2, 2024 Posted May 2, 2024 The others have decided we should have a second Oasis song in the set. My own view is that one Oasis song in the set is at least one too many, but that's democracy for you. The song is Live Forever, which may get treated to a non-original bassline, and it means I've got to play through it at least once to the record, which in turn means listening to that ghastly Mancunian whine, like fingernails on a blackboard. Woodinblack Posted May 3, 2024 Posted May 3, 2024 You should be dancing by the BeeGees and The heat is on by Glen Frey. THe bass on that last one is a bit of a killer, just because it is relentless. The bass on dancing is easy, but made more complicated as I am singing it too! Quote

Simon C Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 (edited) Green Day: Holiday. My daughter bought me a Green Day(my current favourite band) song book for Christmas that I hadn’t really looked at due to having to learn 4 or 5 songs a month for Jam Night and bass lesson monthly competitions. As we aren’t playing at Jam Night for the next couple of months, I thought I’d have a look at the book. I saw someone earlier in the thread had said Holiday was quick to learn, so I thought I’d give it a go. I left the book out on the piano so that she can see I’m using it😊. Jackroadkill Posted May 4, 2024 Posted May 4, 2024 I've just started to learn Holiday in Cambodia - not massively complicated but it's got a kick like an angry Shetland pony. 4 Quote

Reggaebass Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 I’m still working my way through this, it’s got a few tricky parts with the timing but a lovely bassline Quote
