Should be fun even if we don't end up using it in the set. I've been campaigning for Sledgehammer to go into our set. I learnt it for a previous band that never took off. Great to play. Good luck. I have the bones of it down, just need to get all the little nuances, ghost notes (my nemeses!), etc. sorted so it sounds pukka.

prowla
I'm due to have a get-together with some pals for a jam. The last one we did Carry On Wayward Son, Jailbreak, Born To Be Wild, and one or two others; we were supposed to do Money, but nobody else learned it! Upcoming are: Get Back, Come Together, Purple Haze, Badge, Sunshine Of Your Love, Let's Dance, Jumpin' Jack Flash, Teenage Kicks, and a few more; there's quite a few styles to be covered there, which is quite fun.

We messed around with Teenage Kicks at a rehearsal just for a laugh because it's only three chords, and we basically nailed it on the first attempt so into the set list it went! Yep - I think I've managed to work it out! TBH I've not played along to it at all, but there might be a 4th chord in there for the chorus! The little vamp at the end is quite fun too.

Reggaebass
I like a bit of Sade and have been enjoying learning this, it’s different to what I normally play and it trips me up often, good one to play though
prowla
Helter Skelter is another Macca good 'un. The thing about his bass lines in The Beatles is to get the feel of them rather than learn them note-for-note, as I think he did them on the fly and would (or could) never play them exactly the same again. Stub Mandrel
Forget me not. I'm trying to learn it as an example of 'tasteful' slap. My goodness it is a task to get the phrasing right. And for dome infernal reason it requires an insane amount of concentration not to slip into playing what I think it should be instead of what it is. Haven't even looked at the variations! Was it Macca ? Word is that Lennon played bass on Helter Skelter.

tony_m
While I was away enjoying the delights of Cromer last week, the rest of the gang decided on four new numbers to add to our ever-increasing repertoire. Of these, I suspect "Freeborn Man" (The Outlaws) is probably a non-starter (even Mr Singer who suggested it seems to have lost heart!), while we managed to get a decent feel for "Tennessee Whiskey" (Chris Stapleton) at rehearsal yesterday. That leaves "Long Cool Woman (In a Black Dress)" by The Hollies to work on before next week's rehearsal, and finally this little number which is definitely another candidate for our "Songs-Nobody-Will-Know-But-They're-Going-To-Hear-Anyway" list. I've already spent a couple of hours working out the lyrics for Mr Singer as he couldn't find them anywhwere... 🤔
