bassbiscuits
I've been on the lookout for a five-string for a while to cover the increasing number of dep gigs I'm doing which require a five. Picked this up off Basschat on the weekend from MikanHannille (and got chatting about all things bass in the process). It's a Korean-built TRB1005, 35" scale in transparent black with a quilted maple top. I have no idea of the year, but like most of the other Yamahas I've played and owned it's beautifully put together. Hessler made sure I knew about every little mark and scratch on it, but in truth it's about the same condition as the rest of my other basses, and spankingly clean too, nicely set up and with very little fretwear. It's my first five string since a Vester I had in the mid 1990s, so its taking me a while to navigate around it, but it sounds fantastic. It'll get its first outing live on January 11 at a David Bowie tribute night which includes Where Are We Now, (super low bass notes). I can't see me converting to a five-string full time as I love my Mustang and Precision too much, but it seems like a good way to test the waters on a budget, and I'm looking forward to hearing it loud onstage.
