niceguyhomer
Tried a few Sandbergs whilst I was out buying strings yesterday and I was well impressed. I tried a PM4 in droolsome white and a PM5 in sunburst. They both needed a set up but both sounded fantastic - nice build quality too and I mucho preferred 'em to the Musicmen (?) and Warwicks I also had a dabble on. What's the general concensus on Sandbergs? I have to admit I came away with some GAS fellas.
voxpop
I have two of the Custom series and find them fantastic to play. The sound is warm, full and has plenty of detail. A pleasure to play and own. Marc
thedontcarebear
Mine is the best bass I've ever played now, which includes loads I've owned like Warwicks, Goodfellow, Vigier etc.
bigthumb
I dont have a bad word to say about them, I owned a 'Basic' model a couple of years ago. In fact I sold a Stingray to fund it as I was so impressed. I've playad on quite a few in PMT Birmingham and I've also left there with chronic GAS. The California stuff is superb. They have gone up in price lately but I guess its down to the weak pound. Im surprised that they needed setting up as they come pretty much spot on. A very woody and warm tone. The only fretless I've played that has given me GAS for another is the purple F BN5 at the Gallery, but the tone on that is quite different. For me, it's a "keeper". Live, I played it in a indie-rock three piece, and it really filled out the sound. It was a special moment that I recall with great fondness Anyway, all the Sandbergs I've played are great basses, although I've only played one of the fretted variety - a Ken Taylor 5 string model at the Bass Centre. It was a tone monster, and IMHO was vastly better sounding/playing than the Lakland 55-02 that I played immediately before it. There was some debate a couple of years back about whether they were slightly "over-priced" in the UK, given their relative cost on the continent. That may have changed now? Or maybe not, given the weakness of Sterling vs. the Euro. Cheers G Edited January 25, 2009 by Gwilym

Mace
Absolutely love mine - had my first run through with her midweek and was well impressed with every aspect of the bass Am trying to sell my Stingray 5 to help fund as we speak!!! Machines
Played a few - the Basics were very good Stingray alternatives and the Cali's equally so for Fender. Not a fan of the big pole pieces on the Delano pickups but other than that - very very nice. This one on their gallery gets me very weak at the knees.. Rayman
I've tried a few Sandys, and they'e all been brilliant. I must admit to being keen on one myself. I like the "stressed" ones too, not everyone's bag, but definately mine. I mean............that's just ruddy marvelous that is.

yorick
I own two Californias. A JJ and a JM. Beauties, the pair. And the Delano pickups, sweet. Build quality and price(aswas before the pound went tits up) nothing could touch them
niceguyhomer
I was offered a really nice relic'd one in exchange for my Darryl Jones - I think that was a PM5 custom, a kind of yellowy colour - should've snapped that one up. I never used to like artificially battered basses but I kinda like them now - I can identify with something old and battered.

Beedster
I think the thing with Sandberg's relicing is that, unlike Fender's, it looks quite genuine? I had the brief misfortune of owning a Fender Custom Shop relic a few years back (I subsequently had therapy and worked through the problem), and got fed up of being asked why it looked like someone had deliberately scraped the finish off in certain places whilst leaving it immaculate in others. It was, in short, crap. No opinion on Sandbergs as instruments I'm afraid as I've never played one, although I think I might take the opportunity to do so soon Chris
