Compression, compression everywhere but not a drop to squish

Hi there,

I've had a brainwave. I think.  Instead of one super squashy compressor at the start of my pedal board, I was considering using two lighter compressors - one at the start and one at the end before going into my amp.

This would make my signal chain as follows:
-Bass (passives only)
-Morley Wah
-Compressor 1
-EHX Bass Clone chorus
-Fulltone OCD
-EHX Russian Muff
-Mooer Trelicoptor
-Compressor 2
-Amp

I play with a mix of fingers, slap and pick.

Has anyone here any lived experience with this? Or would it just be silly?

I know you're asking compressors, but...have you ever tried the Morley Wah AFTER the Big Muff?  I'm talking INSANE. (and then some delay..........)

I’ve done that, and even had a third in the Fx loop.

I liked it, but it took ages to set up properly.

Yep done it, works well,  have a go and see if it works for you

A couple of TC Spectracomps would give you a lot of options as to how each were configured at the front and end of the signal chain and you’d nab both for under £100 used - not an expensive experiment plus they tend to have decent resale appeal! Or combine one with a more fancy comp such as a Cali CB or one of the many many comps available!

No reason not to try it.
In mixes/masters I find many layers of gentler compression on channels/groups or in parallel often produces the desired effect a lot better (ie with less unwanted artifacts) than one crashingly heavy dollop of compression in one go...
