Cato Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Just heard this on Radio One of all places. Lovely song, very nice bit of double bass too. I'd heard some of the angry protest/social commentary stuff like 'The Revolution Will Not Televised' and ''Whitey on the Moon' but this is a side to Mr Scott-Heron that I was completely unaware of. I didn't even know the guy could sing, let alone that he had a voice like this. 1 Quote
Burns-bass Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 GSH was a great songwriter, lyricist and singer. 3 Quote
fleabag Posted January 5, 2020 Posted January 5, 2020 Indeed he was. Shame about his self destructive hobbies We do 2 covers of GSH's songs, namely Lady Day 'n John Coltrane and The Bottle 3 Quote
Mcgiver69 Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 Is that Jazz has maybe one of the best bass solos ever. Just absolutely beautiful. Quote
StickyDBRmf Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 G.S.-H. was DEEP. And the first rapper Quote
Monkey Steve Posted January 6, 2020 Posted January 6, 2020 I was largely immune to his charms until I heard this: love the mix of industrial and blues, and the fact that he was pushing the boundaries in making new music - great album. Sadly his last - I would have loved to hear what he did next 1 Quote
