lordnielson Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Got this 1979 Stingray a while back quite cheaply. I used to have another from the same year so I've compared recordings of it and there's definately a lack of "bass" on the current one. It's not a massive difference, but enough that it comes across quite a bit less thumby more trebly. Anyone had this with an active bass ? Any trouble shooting tips ? I suppose it's either preamp, pots or pickup Help is greatly appreaciated. Cheers. Quote
Al Heeley Posted January 27, 2009 Posted January 27, 2009 Obvious first question: have you checked the height of the pups from the strings, from low to high? Quote

I even took out the pickup and compared it to another from the same year and they are identical, no mods nor sign of deterioration. I will say that the frets probably could do with a makeover some time in the not to distant future. I don't think that influences the bass/treble levels that much though. Cheers Quote
