Black Coffee
Sad news today for fans of Rush and the music world in general. Drumming legend lays his sticks down for the last time. Awesome talent lost to history Edited January 11, 2020 by Black Coffee
artisan
I genuinely had tears in my eyes when an American friend shared the news on Facebook last night. We've lost one of the world's best musicians,I am gutted to say the least. R.I.P. Neil Peart 1

TrevorR
Absolutely lovely tribute to Neil Peart in the Guardian today. Beautifully written, heartfelt and insightful. Made my eyes well up too, reading it. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2020/jan/10/neil-peart-dead-rush-drummer-appreciation?CMP=Share_iOSApp_Other 6
bigjohn
Never saw Rush but they were my favourite band in my late teens, 25 years or so ago. I still listen to them when I’m in the mood. RIP NP.
Bilbo
I never took much notice of the ages o Rock stars but have just realised that Peart was only 21 when he joined Rush and 22 when they recorded 'Fly By Night'. Amazing.
4000
Read it first thing this morning on Flea’s Twitter feed, of all places. I cried. Rush were a major influence and if I’m honest, I can’t quite believe it.

Chezz55
I'm not into Rush, but this YT video of the band is excellent RUSH - Best Intro EVER !!!!! Sympathies to Mr Peart's family, friends and fans.
Miker400
Behind every great bass player there’s a half decent drummer. Geddy Lee was a lucky guy! Sometimes the planets align a certain way and greatness comes together. What a band, and what a brilliant musician. Sad loss.. 😔
M@23
Rush was played regularly as I grew up and I was fortunate enough to see them 3 times with my dad. Needless to say, extremely sad news for us both, and many, many more. He was incredible to behold live, a true master.
miles'tone
What a wonderful moving example this is of the kind man Neil Peart was: https://www.nme.com/news/music/nicky-wires-brother-shares-touching-postcard-message-from-neil-peart-2595555
Sandypjb
Really saddened by the news. Never felt quite so affected by news of the death of a rock star. Got into Rush in the mid 80s and they've influenced me to this day. Amazed that Neil got though his own personal tragedies with such dignity. RIP.

Barking Spiders
I'm not a Rush fan but as someone who plays a bit of drums I know him as one of the greats. A very sad, tragic way to go for a man who seemed to be one of rock's good guys

Bilbo
I saw them at Bingley Hall on the Moving Pictures tour. Anyone know what year that was?
Angel
Rush were one of the most important bands of my life. As a teen I was in awe of Neil's long hair and long moustache look! Needless to say, his drumming was epic. It is a failing of my life that I never got to see Rush live. Rest in peace and thank you for creating a huge part of the soundtrack of my life.

If you go onto Rush website they have all their gigs sorted out in tours and different years. Bingley Hall was 29th & 30th Oct 1981and was the Exit Stage Left Tour. Their Moving Pictures tour the previous year was all US & Canada. See the link below it makes for some interesting reading They've done some unbelievable tours over the years https://www.rush.com/tour/exit-stage-left/
Mister RLP
Very lucky to have seen them on their last tour in the UK - Clockwork Angels. Brilliant. Got a ticket last minute, drove up and had a blast. My room mate at uni in the late 80s was a huge Rush fan and tried to get me into them (quite rightly) but I was having none of it. He had a huge Presto poster above his bed. He was at the O2 for the show as well but it was a bit trickier to meet up than I thought. I was in the cheap, vertical seats and he was downstairs. Ironically, my phone signal was rubbish.

Bilbo
I thought it was MP because I recall Red Barchetta on the video malarkey. May have been ESL. I saw them at Wembley on the Signals tour also.
Bassassin
ESL tour was the UK/Europe leg of the Moving Pictures tour. MP was released early '81. Still got my MP tour shirt somewhere.

It says 1981 was the Exit Stage Left tour but just wondering if that's the year they recorded it as its the live album and i know Closer To the Heart was recorded in Edinburgh 1981. That was Nov 8th 1981 and def Moving Pictures tour as i have the programme from that gig. Its the only reason i can think off. I guess its what the band called it as its the album they were working on that particular tour
