stewblack Posted January 15 Posted January 15 Been rehearsing in a start up reggae band. Had the first session where everyone clicked the other day. I can honestly say that playing reggae bass is a wonderful experience. Meditation ain't in it. I could play the same two bar riff for hours without noticing the time going by. 4 1 Quote

Nice one stew, there’s nothing like a really sweet reggae Bassline to play, less is more sometimes, good luck with your band 2 Quote

I should lie and say I knew but I'll go on the honour system as I had no idea which movie, I had to go hunt it down. I must have seen Cocktail late 80s, over 30 years now! I'll try for the 5 points next time 1 1 Quote

I was playing Dawn Penn's 'You don't love me (no no no)' with the band at rehearsal the other day and we unexpectedly just keep going around - guitar solo, around again, vocals, around again, brass solo, around again, only bass and drums, around again...and kept going, like group meditation. And for me, standing in front of a loud cab and just repeating that dubby bass that you can feel almost as much as hear, locking in with the drums and everyone else, nothing virtuoso or flashy - providing a hypnotic foundation is my favourite thing with bass playing.
