What's in your gig bag?

I was sorting out my gig bag the other day and thought I'd start this topic. I don't think we need to include leads unless they are strange or out of the ordinary. I found:-

A set of Double Bass strings (£120)
Screwdriver and pliers for fitting them
Multitool (sort of a swiss army knife)
Public Liability insurance certificate
PAT Certificate
Torch
Music stand light
Insulating tape
Spare batteries of all kinds
Fishman Pro eq
Power supply
Biro
Pencil
Spare Underwood pickup
4-way mains board
Tuner
Reading glasses
Lots of Asprin

Nothing remarkable really, but I'm sure some of you guys have some really weird items.

Air.

But i use a case for all my crap. Usually contains:

spare set of strings B-G
one spare of each cable
phillips + flathead screwdriver
Allen keys
9v battery
Wireless kit
electrical tape
notepad with various settings, contact numbers and set list on it
pen ;)
headphones + adapter
planet waves cloth
torch

before/after the gig it also has my strap, 4 gang extention cord, leads, compressor, tuner, sansamp + all power supplies

Not much room for air after all that :P

Good thread bassace, hmmm...

Yes I got a Fishman Pro Eq preamp too
(spare double bass strings in the bass case, keep meaning to put the public liability certificate in there, thanks for the nudge, and the spare underwood is something I've been thinking about for awhile too)
tuner
nail clippers
travel toothbrush
big fat cuban cigar in a tube (I smoke maybe 2 a year - waiting for the moment)
lighter (see above - and yes I know you should only use matches for cigars)
spare headphones for iPod
cable to connect iPod to pa
cash bags (I'm a busker)
pen
and there'll often be whatever shirt I'm going to wear for the gig, folded up and slipped into the special protect-your-laptop compartment
not forgetting a book or copy of the grauniad

My gig bag has my bass in it, and a cleaning cloth.

My big silver case has:

leads, lots of leads
screwdrivers
wire cutters
soldering iron
strings
fuses
strap
earplugs
deodorant
towel
plectrums
batteries
allen keys
power supplies for my pedals
my pedals

think that's it ;)

It seems not many people use their gig bags to put their basses in! ;)

Mine is currently empty, but it's usually:
Bass
Tuner
Spare batteries
masking tape
Pedals
Leads (LOTS of spare leads)
Straps
Sometimes a small mixing desk
fast fret
Lemon oil (makes the back of the neck nice and slick)
Cleaning cloth
Deodorant (important)
keys
set lists
pen and paper
Cds and mp3 player occasioanally
power leads
Screwdrivers
Allen keys
ear plugs

Spare strings and picks if i'm using my guitar, i don't bother if i'm playing bass though.

I have noticed bassists tend to bring the most amount of crap though, i never end up using most of it!

We had a similar thread to this over on Talkbass the other week, so I'll just paste what's relevant from my list there.

Two 20ft instrument cables.
One 10ft instrument cable.
2 speakon leads.
Sansamp BDDI (programmable).
Spare patch cables.
6 outlet power strip with uber long cord.
Plenty of plectrums.
Spare set of strings.
Paper and marker pen.
Scissors.
Wire cutters.
Phillips screwdriver.
Gaffer tape.
At least 1 fresh 9V battery, usually more.
A Towel, always bring a towel ;)

Not counting my pedalboard/effects/tuner, I have –

3 patch leads
3 20ft Instrument leads
2 9V batteries
Earplugs
Spare strap/strap locks
Spare strings
Multitool thing – screwdriver and allen keys etc…

Much more than this I find is excessive and a pain in the arse to lug around ;)

I took a plastic bag with my overdrive pedal in it to a gig once. Never used it though so I've never done it again.

I should really take some spare strings but I've never broken one whilst playing - only when f***ing about with them - and I've never broken a flatwound.

I carry a hardcase with a bass, a strap and a lead. I've got a good leather strap with locks and a 15ft whirlwind.

If I've recently indulged in any setting up I sometimes take a small array of tools in order to be able make any minor adjustments I deem necessary before or whilst getting drunk / during soundcheck. Usually I don't bother.

mmm nothing that odd-

Bass, 2 instrument cables, picks, ear plugs, tuner, spare strings, gaffer tape, pen & paper, spare batteries for bass and tuner, multitool, kettle lead.

hopefully enough that I don't get caught out but not so much that it becomes a chore to lug it about.
