Just an FYI folks - looks like nginx web server for talkbass.com keeps dying.  I'm a user there but also a software engineer, and I recognize a web server issue when I see one.

So if anyone uses talkbass, don't fret (haha) if you get a "404 site not found" or a broken talkbass in your browser.  I hope the operators there are aware of the issue and trying to resolve it.... I don't know how to get in touch with them to let them know.

If only they had some kind of user forum to contact them :D

A shame, because Talkbass used to be the home of exotic basses. It is super staid these days.

I play Talkbass bingo. Browse until you've heard all the big hits...

"P with flats"

"Sits in the mix"

"Leo got it right first time"

"Mud and thud"

"Bass should be felt and not heard"

"7.6lbs? That's an ounce too heavy for me, I'm out"

you forgot

"New to bass. Which $5k bass should I buy ?" 😀

While that is present I feel like there is less of it these days, Talkbass is less middle class than it used to be. As I say, it used to be a doctors and lawyers hangout and the bass porn was off the scale. As a mere regulatory professional, I'm surprised they even approved my account!

Yeah I know what you mean. I can definitely see more new/younger/poorer bassists coming through now.

I feel sorry for them having to suffer all the "use the search function" jibes from the jaded old grumpy hacks.

Basschat is so much better.

I'm sure they are, what with them running a large online community for a number of years now 😄

Can't say I've noticed any "404" occurring.

Replied to easy 30 posts/messages there today.

Nor me - I suspect any problems may be related to additional 'traffic' caused by NAMM related viewing and posts. Or maybe some 'foreign actors' are bombarding the Internet in the US. This term always reminds me of Omar Sharif or Walter Matthau.....

They're probably all here at NAMM rather than at their desks! 😉

Aha - you're at NAMM - would you be able to post some nice pics for us please - especially the Musicman/SBMM booth - especially the short wheelbase SBMM Stingray 😯

I have heard Rickenbacker have a novel and impressive booth (but would understand etc etc 😉), and the Warwick and Sadowski by Warwick (SBW) booths are mightily impressive also. Anyway any pics would be welcome thanks 👍😊

I'm drowning in photos, and slowly sorting them out. I'll be writing my blogs, but before then, I'll find a few to post on here. :)

Rickenbacker's booth is the same style as previously, with the basses hanging from brackets.  A good number of of 5-stringer models and lots of lefty models.

Stingrays must be very popular indeed, as their stand is always extremely busy and not conducive to good photos!

Warwick has a large booth organised in several different areas, which makes it easier to photograph bit by bit, and are making a big song and dance about Sadowsky, as you would expect.

Watch this space. :)

Apologies for derailing the thread. 😏
