dangerboy Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 I've just picked up a lovely Epi Thunderbord from eBay. It looks great, and it's comfortable to play around your knees (as I do). I really hate the sound, though. It's really unfocussed and lacking in top-end. So I thought I might put some single coil pickups in and see what happens. Has anyone ever tried this? Which pups might be best? Quote
dangerboy Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Hmm. No replies, but a few people looked, so I thought I'd update. I've now installed some Eastwood P90s, as seen on this bass: http://www.myrareguitars.com/pictures/hifl...hrtsunFINAL.jpg The entire character of the bass has changed. But I still look cool playing it. More details once I take it to band practice this week and CRANK it. Quote
lemmywinks Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I always thought the epi pickups sucked too. Think the EMG HZ soapbar style pups would be a suitable replacement, great rock tone with none of the TBird mud Quote
spinynorman Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Which Epi TBird is it? If it's the black Gothic version, the body is mahogany, which would contribute a lot to the unfocussed sound. The others are Alder. Quote
