dangerboy
I've just picked up a lovely Epi Thunderbord from eBay. It looks great, and it's comfortable to play around your knees (as I do). I really hate the sound, though. It's really unfocussed and lacking in top-end. So I thought I might put some single coil pickups in and see what happens. Has anyone ever tried this? Which pups might be best?
dangerboy
Hmm. No replies, but a few people looked, so I thought I'd update. I've now installed some Eastwood P90s, as seen on this bass: http://www.myrareguitars.com/pictures/hifl...hrtsunFINAL.jpg The entire character of the bass has changed. But I still look cool playing it. More details once I take it to band practice this week and CRANK it.
lemmywinks
I always thought the epi pickups sucked too. Think the EMG HZ soapbar style pups would be a suitable replacement, great rock tone with none of the TBird mud
spinynorman
Which Epi TBird is it? If it's the black Gothic version, the body is mahogany, which would contribute a lot to the unfocussed sound. The others are Alder.
