51m0n
My son is dead lucky, what with the interweb and forums like this he started with a Nemesis G8 (?) practice amp - great sounding but not loud, perfect then! Now he has finally put all his savings and Xmas pressies together and has a Hartke LH500 (top performer for the original price) into a Berg HT210 (wow!) and has my old BP8 for tuning and weird and wonderful noises. What a lucky g*t I'm dead jealous when I think what I battled with for years! Thats got to be one of the best first rigs ever, and really didnt break the bank compared to what does get bought, and will outperform anything else I have ever heard for what we paid for it. Brilliant!

BassAgent
As this topic has been bumped anyway, here's my evolution. I started on a Crate BX-25. Then I bought a Roland DB500: Then I got my first stack, an Ashdown ABM500 EVO II and an Ashdown ABM410T: I thought that was too heavy. I traded a bass for an Aguilar DB112 cab: Then I sold the ABM410 cab and got a second DB112. Finally I sold the ABM500 and got an Aguilar AG500SC and that is my rig today. Shockwave
Blimey errrr. Well its far easier recounting amps then the amount of basses i had! First amp is a Custom Sound Colt 65K Keyboard amp. Cost me 50 quid down the local tat shop and powered my bass through that. Best picture i have is here. Its at the top left behind the keyboard. Second amp was a heavy as hell Laney DP150. Underpowered for the size but was probably my only proper amp that worked for a while! Played my first gig with it. Bought it for about 200 quid, sold it on for about the same. Then i went through a rack amp phase. But with really bad old PA equipment and home built 1x15. I also have a Behringer BX3000 i think for a while which was good enough to plonk on top of cabs at practices. Then i got this Trace Elliot Twin Valve. Amazing little thing. Just didnt have enough power and didnt understand much about cabs at the time. I think i was using a slightly bigger homemade cab at the time. Then i got into Marshalls i think! Specifically the IBS system. First the 200 watt Bi-Amp, Which i used with a Peavey 1x15. Then i got the 400 watt version Bi-amp. With a Peavey 1x15 and 2x8 all in one cab. (Still miss it, but the weight!) Still have a softspot for Bi-Amping. Really did get great sounds out of it. Then it gets a bit hazy........ I went for a larger rig, started buying cabs. I bought a Roland DB-900, A huge heavy 7 speaker monster combo, which i remember liking the shop when i tried it years ago (RRP £1200), Managed to snag it for 200 quid. I dont know what was wrong but it just fell flat. Not as loud as it should have been, The weight was terrible. The new owner likes it but lol. Also in the picture below was my Ashdown LG1000 Which i probably used most even though i owned it for a shorter time then most. Could take it to any gig or practice, so bloody light and useful! Sold on to a young forumite here i think! The cabs were another homemade 1x15 and a Peavey 1x15 (Which is still for sale) Then i purchased a Marshall 1x18 which is a bit big for me to keep around and trying to sell. Decided to get my first proper rig that didnt involve mismatched cabs, underpowered amps. Or broken ones! Just got an SVT 5 PRO through from our Richardd. And waiting on a Barefaced Vintage 2x15 with tweeter. Bout time i got a proper rig
Cat Burrito
Back in the day I had a Peavey combo from the 70s that I picked up for £50 , gigged to death & sold on 15yrs later for £100. Then I bought a Laney that I never liked. I do have an Ampeg BA115U combo that I am yet to use but I've recently got a decent vintage vibe set up... Now courtesy of Basschat, I have a 1978 Fender Bassman 135 head running into an Ampeg SVT Classic 115E
sshorepunk
Gotta go back to circa 1979 to start this! FAL 100w PA amp, covered in red vinyl! I got me a 15" celestion speaker and made a cab out of plywood with my dad. About 6 months later, I cut it down in size, so just big enough for the speaker in wodth and a bit taller. The bought an empty 15" ported cab, into which went the 15" celestion, I then found an identical cab, so then had me two 15" ported cabs. Think I then got a Tour bass amp from Chase in manchester, the departure of the 15" cabs followed and in came a 4x12, made by leach (salford company) I then, through the $$ I earn't giging, bought one of the early 7 band Trace elliot heads. Had a break from playing for a few years! Back with TE, a combo I think? Then came an ashdown ABM ??, then a chrome rack version of the same, had me an ashdown 4x10. The EBS 4x10, out went the ashdown, in came EBS HD350. The had a Fafner, then onto TD650. Not gigging much so changed 4x10 for EBS Neo 2x12 and eventually the TD650 went in favour of Markbass LMII Missed the TD650, so at first chance got another As I'm gigging a fair bit, swapped Neo 2x12 for EBS proline 4x10 My band can be loud, so had 2 4x10'a Then found neo 4x10, so sold a proline 4x10. Just sold last proline 4x10 so gonna treat myself to another Neo 4x10, cos I'm worth it T
Sibob
Oh I'm RUBBISH with dates, so I'll just do a run down. I think I've been playing about 9 years maybe!? Started with a tiny practice amp, I forget the brand, came with my Encore P-bass Perhaps a year down the line I moved up to a Hartke B90. 90Watt (100 maybe!?) 15 inch speaker, did a few gigs farting that out lol. Couple of years past that I went for my first Rig, an Ampeg B2R, Ampeg SVT 210HE & 115H. Had perhaps year of use out of these bad boys....huge rig for what it was lol. At the same time I had an Eden CXM-112 cab for 'practice', but did a few gigs with that as well, sounded great, but still pretty hefty for the apparent 'home' use I needed it for . Sold all of that when I got m Ashdown setup. ABM EVO II 500 head with ABM Mini48 & Mini15 cabs. This has been my rig for the past 5 years, sounds great, only needed one service this January. Perfec Si
Merton
Bout time i got a proper rig
Hey, I recognise that! Oooh, that reminds me, best update my history: in Vox Escort Bass (2nd hand, my first bass amp!) - 1993 in Trace Elliot Commando 15 (still got this as a practice amp) - 1996 out Vox Escort - 1996 in 2nd Trace Commando linked to the first - 2000 in Trace Elliot AH300-12 with Ashdown MAG410T - 2002 out the 2nd Trace Commando - 2002 in Trace 1153 cab - 2005 in Trace V-Type head - 2005 out Ashdown MAG410T - 2006 in Trace 2103H cab - 2006 out Trace Elliot V-Type head - 2006 in Trace Elliot V-Type 1x15 combo - 2006 out Trace Elliot AH300-12 - 2007 in Eden Nemesis NA320 - 2007 out Trace 2103H - 2008 out Nemesis NA320 - 2008 in Trace Elliot V-Type 4x8 combo and 4x8 cab - 2008 out Trace Elliot 1153 - 2008 out Trace Elliot V-Type 4x8 combo - 2008 in Hartke LH500 - 2008 out Trace V-Type 1x15 combo - 2009 in Trace Elliot 1518 cab - 2009 out Trace Elliot 4x8 cab and 1x15 cab - 2009 in Barefaced Vintage 2x15 cab - 2009 So current rig is dead straightforward - Hartke LH500 into Barefaced Vintage. Commando combo is being borroed by a friend right now and haven't seen it for months! Edited October 14, 2009 by Merton
Adrenochrome
Over quite a few years: 1. Laney 50w combo 2. Peavey Century head + HH 4x12 cab (wonderful sound! wouldn't fit in my next car though...) 3. Laney DP300 head + 4x10 cab (very good rig but amp would switch off with dodgy pub electrics) 4. added Peavey 1x15 black widow cab 5. added Peavey Megabass head (got rid of Laney head) 6. added Ashdown rackmounted MAG 300r head (as Peavey head had gone bang) 7. added Ashdown 2x10 cab (got rid of very heavy Laney 4x10)
