simon1964 Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) Just collected my new Shuker singlecut from Jon this morning. Its a black Walnut body, Asian striped ebony drop top with sycamore veneer between top and body. The neck's a 5 piece laminate neck (maple / wenge) with birdseye maple fingerboard. Electronics are Delano hybrid active/passive with MM +J pickups. Am very very pleased with it - really powerful sound, and plays like a dream! budget bassist Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 (edited) Wow, that's gorgeous, definitely one of the nicest singlecuts i've ever seen! That top is stunning, and good choice on the pickups Glad you're enjoying it, worth the wait? Oh and hows about some pics of the back? Edited January 31, 2009 by budget bassist Quote
Rich Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Absolutely and utterly gorgeous and welcome to the Shuker Club's Maple Board Chapter Quote
Longmayyourun Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 That is absolutely stunning. Congratulations. Yes - I'd love to see the back too Quote
thumbo Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 That's a stunning bass. I bet you're one happy chap! Quote
simon1964 Posted January 31, 2009 Author Posted January 31, 2009 Thanks for all the comments! It really does play and sound as good as it looks. And I've added a pic of the back, by popular demand! Quote
eude Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Awesome Simon! That is absolutely gorgeous! The Ebony top is to die for too, I think I might have to ebony up my next custom bass. Congrats dude! Eude Quote
Bassmonster Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 congrats, thats one very nice looking beast Quote
Tinman Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Another exquisite example of Jons work. You must be chuffed to bits Quote
budget bassist Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 mmm nice, the back of the neck just looks really clean Quote
Tait Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 i've played this and i have to say - its one brilliant bass, it looks and sounds soo good. hmmm... my dads out now... actually i think id better not touch this bass, if anything happens i'd be dead Quote
lozbass Posted February 1, 2009 Posted February 1, 2009 Utterly stunning - I love the top and the simple, uncluttered look of the bass as a whole. I've been looking around at some recent additions to this forum and it just confirms that we're extremely fortunate in the UK to have some amazing luthiers (woriking at reasonable prices) Quote

Mr Shuker has this amazing knack of keeping bass designs so sleek and stylish without making them look like exquisite coffee tables. This is something like the 4th time I've been back to look at this bass in the last day. GAS is a terrible thing. Quote

That is actually exactly what I was looking for - something that looks a bit special, but still looks like a bass! I'm also blown away by the electronics on this. In active mode you have all the sounds you would expect from a good three band EQ. The surprise is the passive tone. In passive mode, the MM bridge pickup operates as a single coil, with the treble knob becoming a passive tone control. And its the nicest passive tone I've come across - Fantastic, punchy, Jazz tone. Jon's SingleCut body design is in my eyes perfectly balanced and pleasing aesthetically and ergonomically. Another fine bass from the Shuker stable! Quote

MacDaddy Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 sweet . I'm gonna email Jon for an update on mine Quote

Well worth the wait! Quote

Not sure whether they're being made for anyone on here, but they look incredible. Also a lefty Jazz looking good (albeit back to front!). I think that's Bassmonster's looking at his build diary, and very nice it looks too! He's also got a stunning White 70s style Jazz, with block inlays, as one of his stock items. I think its on his website, and it looks and plays awesome in the flesh. In fact, i spent a good half an hour drooling over other stuff, and wondering how I could persuade Mrs 1964 that I need another Shuker...... Edited February 2, 2009 by simon1964 Quote
Ant Posted February 2, 2009 Posted February 2, 2009 was there a black 4 string bass with block inlays that was a weird shape? Quote

He was working on a maple Jazz type neck with black block inlays I think! Quote
