That is gorgeous. Great choice of everything. I must get along to Jon Shuker's to have a look and a play. I've got until January 2010 to choose a fretted IV for my 50th birthday - anyone know what the typical wait is for a Shuker?

I think the wait can vary, but I'd allow about 12 months(ish) to be safe.
If you let Jon know you have a big deadline on it, like your 50th, I'm sure he'd make the extra effort to make sure you get it in time ;)

Cheers,

Thanks for all the comments!

Fletchbass - Jon built this in about ten months. Actual waiting time depends on the complexity of the build i think. If you want things like non-standard body shape, non-standard electronics, or through neck etc i think its likely to be longer!

Thanks Simon. I like the look of the white jazz you mentioned. Did you see the single cut bolt-on 4 that is also in the stock section of the website? Although my birthday isn't until January, I've got some (for me) important stuff to do in June so if I really liked a stock bass I've got permission to get it early!

Is that the singlecut that's the same pickup configuration as mine (the hybrid Delanos) and 7 piece wenge/paduak neck? If so, that's an astonishingly good bass, even by Jon's standards. The neck is fantastic. I've played it a couple of times when I've been up there, and it was this bass that made me decide on the Delano hybrid system.

Give Jon a call, and pop over to give it a try! Buying from stock you will get an excellent deal on price as well - cheaper than a build to a new spec.

That's the one. Price is £1100 on the website. I'll try and get there this week - I'm only in Leeds. Thanks for the recommendation - I'll let you know how I get on.

Well now, Simon, I blame you for me being a lot poorer but very excited. I went to Jon's workshop on Tuesday, and as you said, the singlecut 4 stock bass looked and played like a dream, and I go back to pick it up tomorrow night. No need to post pics as it is on Jon's website - www.shukerguitars.co.uk the 6th one in the stock section, in imbuya with a satin finish. Hope the family don't want to see much of me this weekend... Thanks to you and the other Shuker fans on basschat - I knew nothing about Jon and his amazing basses before joining up.

I'm glad you bought that as I was thinking about it! Haha, saves me buying another bass.

Thanks! I've had one bass for 26 years, and now the Shuker makes two. I reckon I'm due another in 2035 - and my wife would probably agree with that. You're right though, 4.30 tomorrow can't come soon enough.
Actually, the most unusual were a pair of 6 string basses shaped like a ric 4003, with white bodies, and a natural quilted maple top. Not sure whether they're being made for anyone on here, but they look incredible. Also a lefty Jazz looking good (albeit back to front!). I think that's Bassmonster's looking at his build diary, and very nice it looks too!

He's also got a stunning White 70s style Jazz, with block inlays, as one of his stock items. I think its on his website, and it looks and plays awesome in the flesh.

In fact, i spent a good half an hour drooling over other stuff, and wondering how I could persuade Mrs 1964 that I need another Shuker......
That SC looks superb man.
Welcome to the owners club:-)
Did those rics have a headstock like my avatar perchance? ;-)

Just seen your pics over on the Rickenbuggery thread - stunning!

i know, old thread but please tell me/us how you like the Delano Hybrid combination ... worth it? Which preamp electronic is in there? Sonar 2?
Blimey - I'd forgotten all about this thread!

The Delano hybrid is a fantastic combination. The preamp is Delano.

In passive, the bridge pickup runs single coil, and you have a volume/volume/passive tone control. So essentially a traditional Jazz set up. I was blown away by the passive tone as soon as I played it.

Switch to active and the bridge pickup reverts to MM humbucker which gives a very good Stingray tone (not identical, as the pickup is placed nearer the bridge - I suspect it would be spot on if it was in the Stingray sweet spot). That's the set up I use most live as it will cut through pretty much any mix.

So a very versatile set up which I would highly recommend. About the only thing it doesn't do is a traditional Precision thump - but I've got three Precisions for that!

Just picked up my Series 2 from Jon. Buckeye Burl top with matching headstock faced front and rear , swamp ash body, maple neck and Birdseye board. Electronics are Aguilar DCBs with the East-UK pre-amp.

I didn't want a cluttered rear, so no battery compartment but an active/passive switch on the front. The tonal range is huge.

I got this after getting a Shuker 2 years back from Cotswold Bass and knew immediately that I wanted to commission something. Oh, and the rear control panel cover is cut from the body wood rather like Elricks or FBass.

All round a stunning piece of work from Jon ?

David
PS - my existing Burl Maple Horn is up for sale here.
