B.Flat Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 Is there anyone out there with experience of Schack carbon fibre necked basses ? I am trying to get a handle on the possible differences between them and Vigier basses with the same necks. Quote
HazBeen Posted January 26, 2020 Posted January 26, 2020 They used to be made by SKC/Bogart. Nowadays they make them themselves, but I understand the carbon is very thin (as I'm told) and not on par with the likes of Status, Bogart, Modulus etc. Quote
Dazed Posted February 2, 2020 Posted February 2, 2020 I had heard tales (couldn’t vouch for them personally) that the necks sometimes were prone to warping - not sure if this was only on the 36” scale models they made. Not the current versions but the older ones. Often been tempted by a Schack though myself being a headless fan. Quote
4000 Posted February 3, 2020 Posted February 3, 2020 FWIW I once bought a used Status that turned out to have a warped neck, so it can happen to any of them. Quote
B.Flat Posted February 7, 2020 Author Posted February 7, 2020 Thanks for replies, I will probably stick with my Vigier Quote

Rob Green once admitted to me that he had problems with the recipe for phenolic resin in some basses in the early 90's which caused necks to warp. Quote

LeftyJ Posted February 8, 2020 Posted February 8, 2020 I played a lefty headless Schack with a graphite neck once, and was struck by how heavy it was! I liked the tone and feel, the neck was wide and thin and really comfortable to my hands. Quote
