Dave Vader
I mean, yeah, Spinal Tap obviously, followed by Strange Fruit and Dogs in Space but... I was talking about books (because obviously I have an ulterior motive here) when I wrote this list of books with bands in that I like (and didn't write myself) https://davedoesntwriteanythingever.blogspot.com/2020/01/the-best-books-about-rock-and-roll-that.html Any others I forgot? (The correct answer is that The Band With Rocks In are the best fictional band btw)
Cat Burrito
Two many to choose from but a stand out for me is The Carrie Nations from Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.

musicbassman
Did anyone else ever have a copy of this? Spoof band comic from the 70's. Worth serious money now, apparently.

Strawbs664
Surely Bad News & Spinal Tap count as real bands? I've seen at least one of them live, and it sounded like they played their own instruments & everything! P.S. The Band With Rocks In gets a vote from me.

Amazon don't allow pre-orders on paperbacks Douglas (in case people forget they set them up and the automated system sends out a paperback of notes that say WRITE A BOOK HERE BY FEB 14TH). Rest assured I will be badgering in here again when it comes out (PB might be up a couple of days early anyway to avoid launch day sag from Amazon). I won't let you miss it. Lozz196
Not sure if ever in print, but if so Strange Fruit from Still Crazy, which on film was Bill Nighy, Timothy Spall, Jimmy Nail, Stephen Rea, being a 70s rock band who reformed for a tour/festival. Absolute classic.
